HOLLY's Story
NAME: Holly Hunt
HOMETOWN: Shippensburg
MAJOR: Biology/Ecology & Environment
FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:
The small class size. Having transferred from Montana State where I was in classes of 300-500 people, I like that here I know my professors and can interact with them daily…and they know me.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:
I am a single mom with three children. Also I have been to all the continents except Australia and Antarctica. My travels were on mission trips as a high school student and while I was in the Army.
CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:
I’m involved with the Biology Club — they organize great recycling projects and have fun field trips.
STUDENT/FACULTY RESEARCH:
I am working on a joint research project with Dr. Todd Hurd (biology) and Dr. Dan Predecki (chemistry). We are testing chemicals in pesticides to see if they cause mutations in DNA. In fact, we’re traveling to New Orleans this spring for the American Chemistry Society national meeting.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
I’ve been accepted to Shippensburg’s master’s program in biology. I will also be earning my GIS certification at Shippensburg. It’s awesome that Ship offers it because it’s a great asset in my career field.
