SHIPBOUND Checklist - for Admitted International Students

Completing the application process and meeting all the deadlines can be stressful! From your first contact with Ship you will quickly realize just how committed we are to your success and we have a strong reputation for helping students realize their full academic potential. From our advanced technology systems to undergraduate research opportunities, Ship can connect you with the latest ideas and resources in higher education.

Step 1: I-20/Enrollment Confirmation Deposit: International students are required to make a NON-REFUNDABLE I-20/Enrollment Confirmation Deposit of $100.00. This deposit will be used for your enrollment confirmation and for the processing and delivery of your I-20 form. The deposit is payable to "Shippensburg University" and will confirm the intention of the student to become a matriculated student.  Once you have submitted your I-20/Enrollment Confirmation Deposit, your I-20 form will be created and mailed via United States Postal Service (USPS) Express International to you along with your visa instructions and acceptance packet.

Admitted students may go to Check Your Application Status and enter the required information. After your News and Information page appears, click on Pay Advance Deposit. NOTE: Only American Express, Discover, and MasterCard credit cards are accepted with a 2.5% convenience fee. Electronic Checks can also be drawn from your bank account at no charge. You will receive notification if payment has been completed, please keep for your records.

Shippensburg University has also partnered with peerTransfer to offer an innovative and streamlined way to make international deposits and tuition payments. peerTransfer’s mission is to save international students and their families money that would otherwise be lost on bank fees and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. With peerTransfer, you can pay from any country and any bank.

Step 2: Select your Method for Shipping the I-20/Acceptance Packets: Packages are sent via USPS Express International and will arrive in 4-6 weeks. If you wish to have your admissions package expedited to you, delivered within 2 to 3 days, you have the option to pay for expedited shipping. Shippensburg University does not pay for this service, but you can pay for express mail using an on-line service that will allow you to receive your immigration documents through an express mail carrier.

Step 3: Activating your SHIP email account: This is one of the most important steps that you must take during your transition to Shippensburg. Activating your account will allow you access to all correspondence from this point forward. You must log in using your Admissions Login ID and Password. After you log in, select your Admissions Term under Processed Applications, then click Activate your Ship Email Address. The system will then prompt you to set a password for your Ship email account.

Step 4: Logging into Self-Service Banner (SSB) for the first time: Students who have confirmed may access their Ship email account at http://mail.ship.edu and SSB at https://ssb.ship.edu. You will not be able to send or receive email from your Ship account until you have accepted and confirmed your admission offer.

Step 5: Housing Options: Each new student is required to complete one of two housing options upon confirmation with Shippensburg University. Undergraduate International students must live on-campus and need to complete the housing agreement and submit a NON-REFUNDABLE housing deposit of $200.

Graduate International students are eligible for on-campus housing but it is not guaranteed.  Questions should be directed to housing@ship.edu.  Off campus housing options can be researched by going to: www.ship.edu/housing/off_campus/off_campus_housing/

Step 6: Medical Form: A medical form will be forwarded to all successful applicants following receipt of the enrollment confirmation deposit. Completion of the medical form is required for enrollment and a hold will be placed on the applicant's record until the form has been received.

Step 7: Final Transcript: A favorable admission decision is based upon the student's qualifications at the time of the offer and is contingent upon his or her maintaining those standards through graduation from the secondary school. The student must request the final transcript (including date of graduation) be sent to the Office of Admissions. Failure to submit a final transcript will result in a hold on the applicant's file.

Placement Testing: Placement testing may be required in English, reading, mathematics, and foreign language. The Placement Testing Office will provide the applicant with notification of test dates and which exams must be completed, after admission.

Step 8: Paying your Semester Bill: Your Shippensburg University bill will be provided electronically to you at myShip. You will NOT receive a paper bill in the mail. Students will receive an email, at their Shippensburg University email address, when the semester bill is available. Please contact the Student Accounts Office with any questions.
