Transfer Admissions Overview
This site is designed for students just like you - students looking to change majors, change colleges, change their lives. Our goal is meet your expectations and ease the transfer process. The admissions staff here at Ship is available throughout the year to assist you.
Contact the Admissions Office to have an application form sent to you, or complete an online application right now. Transfer students enrolled in a Dual Admissions program should not apply on-line.
Transfer students should send the following information to the Admissions Office:
- $40 Application Fee
- Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended
- High School transcript and SAT or ACT scores, if transferring with less than 12 college-level credits
When should I apply?
You should apply for admission no later than one semester prior to the semester in which you plan to attend. For some majors such as Criminal Justice, Business and Elementary Education, transfer students are encouraged to apply as early as a year in advance.
When is the deadline for application?
Shippensburg University uses a rolling admissions deadline, which means you may apply at any time prior to the start of the semester in which you plan to enroll. Please be aware that space is limited in some majors and applying early is the best way to ensure a seat in your degree program.
When will I know if I've been accepted?
File review takes between 4-6 weeks. The Admissions Office will notify you by mail as to your acceptance status. You can also check your Application Status online.
What are the admissions criteria for transfer students?
Transfer students are evaluated on the basis of ALL work attempted at accredited institutions. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) is computed based on all work attempted above the developmental level.
A minimum college GPA of 2.0 and 12 course credits is preferred for admission. Students transferring with less than 12 college-level credits need to submit a high school transcript and SAT scores along with their college transcripts when applying. An admissions decision will be based on all criteria.
Some majors require prerequisite courses or a minimum GPA prior to transferring. Applicants who meet the criteria for admission but who cannot be accommodated in the major of choice will be permitted to select another major or defer admission until a later date.
