Capitol Steps

Capitol Steps“The Capitol Steps make it easier to leave public life.”
-- Former President George H. W. Bush

The uproarious political satire of the Capitol Steps is returning to the Luhrs Center!

Over 25 years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored conventional wisdom (“Don’t quit your day job!”). Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, the group has worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Ronald Reagan was President when the Steps began, so co-founders Elaina Newport, Bill Strauss and Jim Aidala figured that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers!

Having worked for both Democrats and Republicans, and no matter who holds office, the Steps have never been left with a shortage of fresh, new material!
