Students should complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) in order to borrow a Federal Direct Stafford Loan or a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan at www.studentloans.gov.
Parents may complete an eMPN in order to borrow a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan after May 15th at www.studentloans.gov.
Prospective and returning students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.

How to Pay for College (college.gov)
Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year, Shippensburg University will become a Direct Lending institution. The below timeline reflects changes in the steps we suggest our students follow when applying for financial aid. Returning Students please read the checklist thoroughly as it has changed.
1. Apply any time for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for both student and parent at www.pin.ed.gov. Secure PINS are required to submit your FAFSA.
2. Complete federal income taxes after January 1st for student and for parents of dependent* students. Use tax information to complete your FAFSA. Keep a copy for your records.
3. After January 1, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to begin the on-line Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The SU Title IV Code is 003326.
4. Submit your on-line FAFSA no later than March 31, to meet the State Grant May 1st deadline.
5. Receive an e-mail from the US Department of Education indicating your FAFSA was processed.
6. Check the Shippensburg University Financial Aid Portal* for your status and downloadable forms. Submit any requested documentation to the SU Financial Aid Office as soon as possible.
7. Receive award letter. *Review and return to the Financial Aid Office if instructed to do so. You may also view your Award Letter information on the Financial Aid Portal.
8. Visit the Department of Education's electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) site to complete the Federal Direct Lending eMPN at www.studentloans.gov.
9. Parents choosing to borrow a Federal Direct PLUS Loan should also visit the Department of Education's eMPN site www.studentloans.govafter 6/15/2010.
10. First time Federal Direct Stafford Loan borrowers must also complete entrance counseling online at www.studentloans.gov
