Federal Direct PLUS Loan Denial Instructions

If your parents are unable to obtain credit approval for a PLUS loan, you are eligible to receive an additional Stafford loan to help cover your 10-11 costs.  If either your mother or father apply for and are denied a PLUS loan, the financial aid office will be able to add either a $4000 unsubsidized loan (for freshman and sophomores) or a $5000 unsubsidized loan (for juniors and seniors) to your account.  Please remember to tell your parents that this additional Stafford loan will be in your name, not theirs.

The following instructions will help your parent apply for a PLUS loan:

1.       Go to www.studentloans.gov

2.       Sign in

3.       Click the "Complete PLUS Request Process" and have your parent follow the prompts provided by the Web site.  If your parent is not approved for the loan, the Department of Education will notify the financial aid office electronically.
