Federal Stafford Loan Instructions

In order for you to receive your Federal Stafford Loan you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance/Exit Counseling paperwork. If you have selected AES as your guarantor*, you can complete these two forms at www.aessuccess.org.

  1. Go to www.aessuccess.org
  2. Scroll down the middle of the homepage and click on "Entrance & Exit Counseling."

Select "Federal Student Loan Entrance Counseling" and press "continue." This will walk you through a small entrance interview with questions. Students must complete this so they have a full understanding of the loan process.

  3. After the entrance interview is completed, go back to the AES homepage.
  4. Scroll down the middle of the homepage and click on "Stafford Loans" and then select "apply now."
  1. Press "continue" at the bottom to start the application process. This will be general information for you such as address, phone number, SSN, etc.
  2. As you continue, you will need two separate individuals for references. These are NOT co-signers for the loan. References are used to find you if you are not making payments to your loan. One reference can be a parent and the other must be someone at a different address than your own. Example: Father if your parents are divorced, Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle, etc.
  3. After you complete the application you must sign it. You can use the same pin number used to sign the FAFSA that was filed for you for 08/09. If you don't remember your pin number make sure to print out the application, sign it, and then mail it to the address provide on the application.

Federal PLUS Loan Denial Instructions

To receive additional loan money to help cover all of the costs for 09/10 you have the option of trying for the PLUS loan denial. By having your Mother or Father apply for the loan and getting denied, this will automatically add an additional $4,000 to your Stafford Loans. Please remember to tell your parents that this will NOT be their loan and will be in your name. In order for you to get this additional funding you must have them file a PLUS loan application. If you feel comfortable helping them with the process and you have selected AES as your guarantor*, you can follow the directions provided.

  1. Just like the Stafford Loan process, go to www.aessuccess.org.
  2. Scroll down the middle of the homepage and select "Parent PLUS Loans." and press "apply now."
  3. Press "continue" at the bottom of the screen to start the process. You will need the information for one parent such as name, address, SSN, date of birth, etc.
  4. After completing this application you will have to sign it as well using the PARENT pin number used for the FAFSA. If you don't have the parent pin number, print it out, have a parent sign it, and then mail it to the address provided on the application.
* Parents/students are not required to select AES as a guarantor. For more information, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
