Dora Addams Scholarship

For incoming, full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the Art Department.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Theodore and Blanche Barnhart Elementary Education Scholarship

For entering full-time freshmen majoring in elementary education with a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class.  First preference is given to students from Hanover and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and the immediate surrounding area.  If no qualified student from the above-defined regions apply, the scholarship will be awarded to a resident from the state of Pennsylvania. Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the end of each academic year, complete a minimum of twelve credits per semester, and major in Elementary Education.

Ivin S. and Virginia D. Bear

For incoming full-time freshmen from one of the following central Pennsylvania counties:  Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Perry and York.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need.  This is a four-year scholarship.

Ruth G. Beaver Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen demonstrating financial need and academic promise. Although open to all students, first preference is given to students from Juniata County.   This scholarship may be renewed for four years provided the recipient completes 12 credits per semester.

Erna Wright Berkheimer Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who are residents of Pennsylvania and major in education.  Student must have a combined SAT score of at least 1200 and rank in the upper 10 percent of the high school class. Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester, and major in education.

The Grant and Susan Conaway Blowers Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen that reside in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, have SAT scores of 1100 or more, and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. Recipients may retain the scholarship for a maximum of four consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester and maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

The George R. and Margaret H. Brindle Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who are legal residents of Pennsylvania that have declared themselves Teacher Education candidates intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes. Recipients must have a minimum combined SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 15 percent of their high school class.   Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, complete 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled as a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  Recipients must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered.

George L. Brown Scholarship

For incoming, full-time freshmen or current undergraduate students.  Recipient must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  Students from the following Dauphin County, PA townships will be given preference: 1) Middle Paxton Township, first preference, 2) Susquehanna Township, second preference.    This is a four-year scholarship.

Reva Hoback Brubaker Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in business who demonstrate financial need and academic promise.  The recipient must be a resident of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, or West Virginia.  Students cannot benefit from this scholarship for more than four years.

Mary Beasley Burch Gifted Minority Student Scholarship Fund

For full-time minority students with a minimum score of 1050 on the SAT and who rank in the upper ten percent of their high school class.  This scholarship may be retained for 8 academic semesters provided the recipient completes an average of 15 credits per semester, maintains a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the end of the freshman year and a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the sophomore and junior years. The SAT requirement may be waived at the discretion of the selection committee if a candidate ranks in the upper 5 percent of their class and shows evidence of exceptional academic potential.

Capital Blue Cross/John L. and Cora I. Grove Business information Systems Scholarship Program

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in Business Information Systems, with SAT scores of 1100 or more, rank in the upper tenth of their high school class, enroll in the Honors Program, and agree to complete an internship with a corporate sponsor of the Business Information Systems Scholarship Program.  Internships will take place during the second semester of the junior year and the following summer; or, during the summer following the junior year and the first semester of the senior year.  The total amount of the scholarship will equal the sum of the following: 1) Four years of in-state tuition; 2) In-state tuition for two, three-week summer courses; and 3) Student living expenses for two, three-week summer courses.  Recipients of this scholarship must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative QPA at the end of each semester, complete 15 or more credits per semester, major in Business Information Systems, and remain enrolled in the Honors Program.  The recipient must sign a Student Agreement Form.  Funding for this scholarship is based on the availability of funds from an external funding source.

The Harry and Elizabeth Chapman Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen demonstrating financial need and academic promise, who have SAT scores of 1100 or more and who rank in the upper 15 percent of their high school class.  Although open to all students from Pennsylvania only, preference is given to graduates of Cumberland Valley High School, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.  Recipients may retain the scholarship for a maximum of four academic years provided they maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete 12 credits per semester.

The Class of 1950 Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  Recipients must have a minimum combined SAT score of 1000 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class.    Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, complete 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled as a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.   Applicants are required to complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.

Class of 1954 Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Computer Science Scholarship

For students majoring in computer science with the highest combined SAT score and rank in the top twenty percent of their class.   Selection will be made on ability and projected promise only.   This scholarship awarded in the fall is renewable in the spring if the student maintains at 3.0 cumulative GPA, remains a computer science major, and completes twelve credits per semester.   The Computer Science Scholarship is a one-year, undergraduate scholarship.

Dr. Angelo and Mrs. Dolores Costanzo Gifted Minority Student Scholarship Fund

For full-time minority students, preferably freshmen with SAT scores of 1050 or more and rank in the upper ten percent of the high school class.  The SAT requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Selection Committee if a candidate ranks in the upper five percent of their high school class and shows evidence of exceptional academic potential.   Recipients of this eight academic semester scholarship must complete an average of fifteen credits per semester and maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the end of freshman year and a 3.0 at the end of sophomore and junior year.  

Janice Tarner Crawford Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen with an interest in Medical Technology.  Recipients must be a resident of Pennsylvania with preference provided in the following order:  1) Residents of Franklin, Lehigh or Northampton County enrolling as Biology or Chemistry majors indicating an interest in Medical Technology  2) Residents of other Pennsylvania counties enrolling as Biology or Chemistry majors and indicating an interest in Medical Technology  3) Residents of Franklin, Lehigh or Northampton County majoring in Biology  4) Resident of other Pennsylvania counties majoring in Biology.   Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

The Dickinson Scholarship Fund 

For incoming full-time freshman with a minimum score of 950 on the SAT and have graduated in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.   Applicants must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.   Applicants must reside in Bedford, Blair, or Huntingdon Counties (Pennsylvania) with priority consideration given to graduates of Tussey Mountain School District (Bedford County, Pennsylvania) or its successor.   This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of twelve credits per semester and maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

The Charles H., Jr., and Jane E. Diller Scholarship Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business.   Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and a minimum score of 1100 on the SAT and rank in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need and are required to complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.    This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of twelve credits per semester, remains enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business and maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

Dinger Scholarship Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business.  Applicants must have a minimum score of 1100 on the SAT and rank in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.  Recipient must be a graduate of Tri-Valley High School (or its successor), which serves Valley View, PA (Schuylkill County). Applicants must demonstrate financial need and are required to complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship. This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of twelve credits per semester, maintains a 2.75 cumulative GPA for freshman year, a 3.0 at the conclusion of the sophomore year, and a 3.2 at the conclusion of the junior year.

Annabel Heberlig Eisenberg Loan/Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Education within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the upper twenty percent of their high school class. This loan/scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four years provided the recipient completes a minimum of 15 credits per semester, maintains a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and pursuits a Bachelor of Science in Education within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.  It is the intention of the benefactor that these loan/scholarships be awarded to students with a desire to teach mathematics at the secondary level.  The loan/scholarship will be forgiven according to the following provision: for each year of full-time employment as a teacher of secondary mathematics, $1,000 of the loan/ scholarship will be forgiven. The recipient has six years from the date of graduation to meet this requirement.

The English Department Scholarship Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the English Department.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1300, rank in the upper one-fifth of their high school class, and achieve a high school GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.  This scholarship can be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of twelve credits per semester, remains enrolled in undergraduate degree program administered by the English Department, and maintains at least a 3.2 GPA at the end of each academic year.

Edith Davis Eve Foundation

This scholarship is awarded to incoming full-time freshmen of high academic merit and who has financial need.  The recipient of this scholarship must be a resident of Blair County, PA, excluding the City of Altoona.  This scholarship is contingent on available funding.  Additional information on this scholarship is located on the State System of Higher Education's website here .

O. Richard Forsythe English Education Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves Teacher Education candidates for certification purposes in the subject area of English.  Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be considered for this scholarship.  This scholarship may be retained for four (4) consecutive years provided the recipient completes a minimum of twelve (12) credits per semester and remains enrolled in Teacher Education for certification purposes in the subject area of English.  The recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA that equals or exceeds a 3.0 and equals or exceeds the minimum needed for a student to remain a Teacher Education candidate.

The Shirley Fry Fox Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who are citizens of the United States.  Preference shall be given to residents of Cumberland, Dauphin, and Lebanon counties.  Recipients must be in need of financial assistance.  This four-year scholarship may be retained if the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and completes twelve or more credits per semester.

Special Provision, per the Last Will and Testament of Mrs. Shirley Fry Fox.

"While all scholarships shall be in the form of grants, all scholarship recipients shall be required to sign the following statement of intent:

In recognition of the help afforded me now and in acknowledgment of the funds so used by me, I hereby state my intention to repay to The Shirley Fry Fox Scholarship Fund, in full, or in part insofar as I am financially capable, the moneys expended or provided by the Fund for my education. I recognize that this Statement of Intention will not be binding upon me if conditions make it financially impractical for me to fulfill this intent in whole or in part. 

After a student signs such statement of intent, Shippensburg University Foundation need take no further action to obtain repayment of the scholarships."

John G. and Julia F. Geiling Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen with SAT scores of 1200 or more who rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class. Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year completing 12 credits per semester to retain the scholarship.

Dr. James R. and Mrs. Phyllis B. Geyer Teacher Education Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in Teacher Education within the College of Education and Human Services.  Recipient must have scored a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, complete 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled in Teacher Education within the College of Education and Human Services.

H.O.P.E. Diversity Scholarship

For entering freshmen minority students who score a combined math and verbal SAT of 1050 and rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class. The SAT requirement may be waived at the discretion of the award committee if a candidate ranks in the upper 5 percent of their class and shows evidence of exceptional academic potential.  Recipients may retain the scholarship for a maximum of eight academic semesters, provided the recipient maintains a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the end of the freshman year and a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the sophomore year to be maintained through his/her tenure at Shippensburg University.  The recipient must carry an average of 15 credit hours per semester.  The scholarship awards committee will consider requests for exceptions to these criteria.

The Glencoe, Inc. Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen that have demonstrated their abilities by their high school grades, test scores, academic awards received, and by the examples they set in their personal lives. The financial, family, and social circumstances of each applicant is taken into consideration.  Recipients of this four consecutive-year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and completed 12 credits per semester. This scholarship is funded by annual gifts made by the publishing company to the Shippensburg University Foundation and is renewable pending availability of funding from the benefactor.

The GLENCOE Inc., Witmer, Grimes, and Moore Scholarship

This scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen interested in a career in the publishing field who will pursue a degree within a related discipline, English or Communication/Journalism.  Although open to all students, preference is given to those from an underprivileged background.  This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided 12 credits per semester are completed, a 3.0 cumulative GPA is maintained at the end of each academic year, and a degree in the publishing field (English or Communications/Journalism) is pursued.  This scholarship is renewable pending availability of funding from the benefactor.

Dr. Edward S. Goodhart Endowment Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the Accounting Department.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1200 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  First preference will be given to those graduating from Shippensburg Area School District.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

The Bill Goodling Teacher Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen residing in Adams, Cumberland or York County.  Recipients must rank in the top 33 percent of their high school class.  Recipients must be interested in becoming a teacher, be a positive role model and participate in extracurricular activities.

Samuel A. Gotwalt and Helen M. Gotwalt Scholarship

This scholarship is presented to a graduate of the William Penn Senior High School of the York City School District who demonstrates outstanding academic excellence and personal qualities. 

Norman E. Greenawalt Scholarship Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen who reside in Franklin or Cumberland County, PA with priority given to students who graduate from Shippensburg Area Senior High School (or its successor) with SAT scores of 1100 or more and rank in the upper 20 percent of their class. Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the academic year and complete twelve credits per semester.  Applicants must complete the FAFSA.

John L. and Cora I. Grove Scholars Program

For talented incoming students who pursue a degree within the John L. Grove College of Business, rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class and achieve a combined SAT score of 1100 or more.  Financial need is taken into consideration.  Applicants must complete the FAFSA no later than February 28th of each year.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must pursue a degree within the John L. Grove College of Business, maintain cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year of 2.75 as a freshman, 3.0 as a sophomore, and 3.2 as a junior, and complete 12 credits per semester.  If a recipient received a grade of "F" in any course at Shippensburg University or violates the Honor Code, the scholarship will be revoked.

Dr. Alfred V. Gunter Memorial Scholarship

For incoming freshmen students majoring in an undergraduate degree program administered by the Biology Department.  The recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years or until graduation, which ever comes first.  To retain this scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher at the end of each academic year, must complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the Biology Department.

H & H Chevrolet Scholarship

For local incoming full-time freshmen with SAT scores of 1000 or more who rank in the upper 25 percent of their high school class. Applicants must have graduated from one of the following school districts in Pennsylvania: Chambersburg, Shippensburg, Big Spring, Carlisle, South Middleton, or Cumberland Valley.  Applicants must complete the FAFSA to be considered. This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester

Highmark Blue Shield Scholarship/Internship

For full-time undergraduate freshmen students who major in Management Information Systems (MIS) with an SAT score of 1100 or greater and a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Applicants must agree to complete an official, compensated internship with Highmark Blue Shield during the summer semesters of the sophomore and junior year or an extended internship (one semester plus a summer for a total of eight months) as mutually agreed to by Highmark Blue Shield, the Management Information Systems Department Chair, the College's Internship Coordinator, and each recipient.  Each recipient must register for at least six credits (equal to one internship) with the John L. Grove College of Business.  Recipients must be registered for internship credit during the time in which they are completing the internship experience.  The scholarship may be retained by a recipient through the recipient's completion of 120 required credits for graduation provided the recipient completes 12 credits per semester, majors in MIS, maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and completes an internship with Highmark Blue Shield.  Failure to complete the internship will result in the immediate loss of the scholarship.

Highmark Blue Shield Scholarship/Internship Program for the Physically Disabled

For full-time undergraduate freshmen students who major in Management Information Systems (MIS) with an SAT score of 1000 or greater and a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  The applicant would possess a physical disability/ites (observable).  Examples of physically disabilities include situations where an individual is observed using: a wheelchair, a seeing eye dog, a white cane, sign language or an interpreter, crutches as permanent aids, or any observable disability that limits a major life function. Applicants must agree to complete an official, compensated internship with Highmark Blue Shield during the summer semesters of the sophomore and junior year or an extended internship (one semester plus a summer for a total of eight months) as mutually agreed to by Highmark Blue Shield, the Management Information Systems Department Chair, the College's Internship Coordinator, and each recipient.  Each recipient must register for at least six credits (equal to one internship) with the John L. Grove College of Business.  Recipients must be registered for internship credit during the time in which they are completing the internship experience.  The scholarship may be retained by a recipient through the recipient's completion of 120 required credits for graduation provided the recipient completes 12 credits per semester, majors in MIS, maintains a 2.8 cumulative GPA, and completes an internship with Highmark Blue Shield.  Failure to complete the internship will result in the immediate loss of the scholarship.

Dr. Ralph T. Hocking Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering the John L. Grove College of Business in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Finance.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1150 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Class of 1949 Dr. J. Bernard Hogg Memorial Scholarship Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen who are a resident of Pennsylvania majoring in Teacher Education intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  The recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the upper 20 percent of his or her high school class.  Applicants are required to complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient remains enrolled in Teacher Education intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes, maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, and completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

George C. and Patricia R. Hoopy Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen graduating from Harrisburg Academy (PA).  If no Harrisburg Academy graduates are eligible, it will be offered to graduates from Cedar Cliff High School of the West Shore School District (PA) or its successor.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

Richard H. Hosfeld Memorial Fund

For incoming full-time freshmen who graduate from Shippensburg Area Senior High School (or its successor) with SAT scores of 1100 or more and rank in the upper 25 percent of their class. Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of the academic year and complete 12 credits per semester.

James A. Hughes Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students from specific School Districts from the Philadelphia area (a list of eligible schools available upon request).  This scholarship is guaranteed for the freshman year only.  Scholarship recipients may reapply to be considered for scholarship renewal if they meet specified deadlines, maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and submit a written reference from one of their teachers or advisors endorsing them as a scholarship recipient.  This scholarship is contingent on available funding.  Additional information on this scholarship is located on the State System of Higher Education's website at www.sshechan.edu/scholarships.

Dr. Dilys Martha Jones Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen that declare themselves a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes. Recipients must have a minimum combined SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  Preference is given to residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester.

Dr. Elnetta G. Jones Scholarship

This scholarship is for full-time freshman entering Shippensburg University within the Office of Undeclared Students.  Recipients must have a minimum combined math and verbal SAT score of 1150 and rank in the top two-fifths of their high school class.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester.

The George Kaluger - Harry D. Sweely Psychology Chair Scholarship

This scholarship is for entering freshmen majoring in Psychology who is a resident of Pennsylvania.  Recipient must score a minimum of 1200 on the SAT and rank in the top fifth of his/her graduating high school class.  Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of each academic year, complete 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled in an undergraduate program administered by the Psychology Department.

Dr. Harry L. Kriner Memorial Scholarship

Recipients must be entering full-time freshmen who major in the Elementary Education program within the Teacher Education Department and have an interest in pursuing additional certification in early childhood education.  Applicants must complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must complete 12 credits per semester and remain enrolled in the Elementary Education program within the Teacher Education Department and actively pursue additional certification in early childhood education.

Jeff and Sharon Lee Student Scholarship

Recipients must demonstrate financial need and complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  The recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 950 and a high school GPA of 3.0.  Potential recipients will be given priority in the following order:  1) students who are African American, 2) students who are entering freshmen then 3) students who are graduates of the Philadelphia Public School System.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Legros-Mastovich Family Memorial Endowment Fund

The recipient must be a non-traditional, full-time freshmen enrolled with a major of Sociology or Political Science.  The recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Paul S. Lehman Memorial Scholarship

First preference is given to applicants whose high school of origin is in Mifflin or Juniata counties, Pennsylvania.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and graduate in the upper one-fifth of their high school class. Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester.

Dr. Gerald A. Leidy Outstanding Student Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves as seeking certification to teach at the elementary level or to teach a specified discipline at the secondary level.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1200 and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Jack and Margaret Lemmon Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to entering full-time freshmen majoring in Criminal Justice or Social Work that are United States residents.  Applicants are required to complete the FAFSA.  This scholarship may be retained for 4 consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester, remains enrolled in an undergraduate degree program within the Criminal Justice or Social Work Departments, and maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale at the end of each academic year.

Helen I. Lower Elementary Education Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in elementary education that demonstrate financial need and academic promise. Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the upper two-fifths of their high school class. Applicants must present two letters of recommendation from non-relatives regarding academic performance, interest in children and potential for collegiate success.  They must also write a letter indicating interest in education, Shippensburg University, high school or out of school activities and interests to give a broader view of the applicant personally as well as their writing skills.  The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years pending a review of the Selection Committee based upon academic progress of the recipient.

Floyd M. and Dorothy Heisey Mains Scholarship

For an entering freshman majoring in Elementary Education with a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. Applicants from Cumberland and Franklin counties, Pennsylvania, are given priority consideration.  Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester to retain the scholarship.  Students cannot benefit from this scholarship for more than four years.

Sean C. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship

Recipients must enter an undergraduate degree program administered by the English Department.  Applicant must complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive years provided the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester, remains enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the English department, and maintains at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

McGaughey-Higgins Outstanding Student Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen students majoring in education who ranks in the top 10 percent of their high school class with SAT scores of at least 1200.  Recipients can retain this scholarship for four consecutive academic years if they maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each semester and complete 12 credits per semester.

Eleze P. and Chester S. McKenzie English Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves as English majors with certification to teach English.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The William F. Morris Scholarship for Math and Science Secondary Education

For incoming full-time freshmen students that have declared themselves Teacher Education intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes in the subject area of secondary mathematics and/or secondary science.  Applicants must have achieved above a 3.0 average for their high school college preparatory mathematics and science courses.  Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Darby D. and Joseph H. Muggio Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for Elementary Education or Business Education certification purposes.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

National City "Investing in Pennsylvania's Future" Scholarship

Applicants for this award must be incoming freshmen who are in need of financial aid from the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Greene, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington, and Westmoreland.  Recipients are selected based on academic promise.  Preference is given to incoming full-time freshmen with a minimum SAT score of 1000, class rank in the top 30% of their class, and a high school GPA of 2.7 or better.  This scholarship is contingent on available funding.  Additional information on this scholarship is located on the State System of Higher Education's website at www.sshechan.edu/scholarships.

Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation HOBY Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen with SAT scores over 1200 who rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class. Recipients of this four-year scholarship must maintain a required cumulative GPA to retain the scholarship.

Ethel L. (Hoover) Oyler Elementary Education Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen majoring in Elementary Education with a minimum SAT score of 1150 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. Preference is given to applicants from Franklin County, Pennsylvania.  If no qualified students from Franklin County apply, the scholarship will be awarded to a student from the state of Pennsylvania.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, remain enrolled in Elementary Education, and complete 12 credits per semester.

Vera W. Patterson Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program in the Criminal Justice Department.  Recipients must be residents of Pennsylvania with priority given to residents of the following counties:  1) First preference to Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland  2) Second preference to Armstrong, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren.   Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Dr. William E. Peightel Scholarship

For incoming freshmen with SAT scores of 1100 or more and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. Recipients must enter a degree program within the Biology department, with preference given to candidates pursuing a Health Science degree.  Recipients may retain the scholarship for a maximum of four consecutive academic years provided they complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester, remain enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the Biology Department, and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors' Scholarship Program

The Board of Governors' Scholarship is awarded to newly admitted full-time students based on academic performance, high school class rank and SAT scores.  This four-year program for students requires maintenance of a 2.5 semester and cumulative point average.  Recipients with 30 or more earned credit hours are automatically renewed if they earn both a 2.8 semester and cumulative GPA.  It is available only to Pennsylvania residents and provides an amount up to or equal to annual tuition.

Scott Alan Petruno Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen from a single parent household.  Recipients must be residents of the United States of America.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  This is a one-year only award.

The Frederick L. Peters Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen, with priority given to those students who are graduates of the Shippensburg Area or Big Spring school districts, pursuing a B.S.B.A. degree within the Department of Accounting.  In addition to demonstrating good character and citizenship, applicants should have an SAT score of 1100 and graduate in the upper 20 percent of their high school class.  This four consecutive academic year scholarship may be retained if the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester, and pursues a B.S.B.A. degree within the Department of Accounting.

The Phillips/Morrell Family Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have academic abilities and test scores traditionally acceptable for admissions at Shippensburg University.  The recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (a "C" average, minimally) on a 4.0 scale.  Financial need is taken into consideration.  The recipient must demonstrate good character, morals, decency toward others, and citizenship.  This scholarship may be retained for 4 consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes 12 credits per semester, maintains a 2.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

Michael and Nancy Pinkowicz Business Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  Recipients must be legal residents of Philadelphia, Montgomery or Delaware County in Pennsylvania.  Qualified minority applicants will be given first preference in the awarding of this scholarship.  This is a four-year scholarship.

Alan D. Potena Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who pursues a broadcasting degree within the Communication/Journalism Department.  Preference is given to students from Adams, Bucks, and York counties, Pennsylvania.  The student must score 1000 or more on the SAT and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class. Financial need is also taken into consideration.  Candidates are required to complete the FAFSA. This scholarship may be retained for four consecutive academic years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of each academic year, pursues a broadcasting degree within the Communication/Journalism Department, and completes a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

The John A. Pringle Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund

Recipients of this scholarship must be entering full-time freshmen majoring in an undergraduate degree program administered by the Criminal Justice Department.  A minimum SAT Score of 1100 and rank in the upper one-tenth of their high school class.  Recipients should demonstrate outstanding character and citizenship traits, including community activities/service, along with a demonstrated knowledge of the founding documents of the United States of America - the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution.  This scholarship may be retained for 4 consecutive academic years provided the recipient completes 12 credits per semester, remains enrolled in an undergraduate degree administered by the Criminal Justice Department, and maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.  Each year the recipient will write a letter of commendation and appreciation for services rendered to a member of the law enforcement community (or to the family of a law enforcement agent who has been killed in the line of duty) who has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of duties in PA or any other state of the United States of America.  Additionally the student recipient will write an internship paper based on firsthand internship experiences with an agency pertaining to law enforcement and/or the judicial system that upholds American values, morals, principles, and ethics of our country's Founders, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution, and our American heritage.

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program in the Chemistry Department.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1050 and rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of each academic year, major in an undergraduate degree in the Chemistry Department, and complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

Albert Lindsay Rowland and Ruth Hodge Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the College of Education and Human Services.  Recipients must have a disability (ie., physical, learning, medical or emotional) and be registered with Shippensburg University's Office of Social Equity.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship.

The Schaul Scholarship

This scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen, first generation college students of color that demonstrate good character and citizenship.  Recipients must complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship. Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester, maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the freshman year and a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the sophomore and junior years.

G. Radcliffe and Marian B. Schultz Scholarship

The Clarence Schock Foundation Scholarship (SICO Foundation)

As a memorial to Clarence Schock (1865-1955), founder of The SICO Company and The SICO Foundation, Clarence Schock Foundation scholarships are valid for four years.  They are awarded each year to a number of entering freshmen whose legal residences are in the following Pennsylvania counties: Adams, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York, provided the student is or will be a graduate of a secondary school in the same counties.  Factors considered by Shippensburg University in naming the Clarence Schock Foundation scholarship recipient include scholastic record, financial need, and personal attributes.  Applicants who do not live in the above listed areas may still qualify if graduating from one of the following high schools: Shippensburg, Boyertown, Spring Ford or Williams Valley in Pennsylvania.

John Weldon Scott Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering one of the following academic programs:  1) Majoring in French or Spanish (BA), with or without Secondary Education Certification or in International Management (BSBA) or 2) Minoring in Ethnic Studies, French, German, Spanish or International Studies.  Priority consideration will be given to qualified students of any minority race.  Recipients must have achieved at least a 2.8 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.  This is a four-year scholarship.

For incoming full-time freshmen with an SAT score of 1200 or more and rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class. Recipients of this full-tuition four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete 12 credits per semester.

Dr. Thomas Smyth Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship if for an entering freshman majoring in Biology. The student must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top one-fifth of the high school class.  To maintain this scholarship for four consecutive years, the recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.8 in their freshman year and a 3.0 in their sophomore and junior years and complete 12 credits per semester.

Minnie Patton Stayman Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to incoming full-time freshmen of high academic merit with financial need.  The recipient of this scholarship must be a resident of the City of Altoona, PA. Harriet Wylie Stewart Scholarship 

This scholarship is presented to a graduate of the Shippensburg Area School District with first preference given to applicants from the Middle Spring community. The recipient must demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding character, and citizenship.  This scholarship is not renewable.

Dr. Paul L. Stone Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to entering full-time freshmen majoring in Elementary Education.  Recipients must be well-rounded individuals who demonstrate good character and citizenship.  Participation in one's community and extra-curricular activities is a determining factor and academic performance is also taken into consideration.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must remain enrolled in the Elementary Education program and complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

The Strine/Stoner Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who are residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that declare themselves Teacher Education candidates intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  Preference is given to students from the counties of Cumberland and Dauphin, Pennsylvania. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must complete 12 credits per semester and remain enrolled as a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes. 

Laura J. Peffer Stuart Memorial

For a student demonstrating financial need and academic promise. Recipients from the Borough of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and vicinity (defined as the townships surrounding Carlisle, Pennsylvania) are given priority consideration.  If no eligible candidates are from the Borough of Carlisle, a recipient will be selected from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.   Recipients may retain the scholarship for a maximum of four consecutive academic years provided he/she maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and completes 12 credits per semester.

Barbara Jones Swartley Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves Teacher Education candidates intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes.  Candidates must indicate an interest in teaching at the middle school level. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  Recipients of this four consecutive academic year scholarship must complete 12 credits per semester and remain enrolled as a Teacher Education candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for certification purposes. 

Craig K. Swavely Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is presented to entering full-time freshmen who demonstrated financial need, achieve a minimum score of 1000 on the re-centered SAT examination, and graduate in the upper fifth of their high school class.  Recipients should also demonstrate good character and citizenship. First preference is given to graduates of Antietam School District and the Exeter School District.  If there are no qualified candidates from the area of first preference, second preference is granted to residents of Berks County, Pennsylvania. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and are required to complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

Dr. Harry D. Sweely and Virginia Schell Sweely Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering the Elementary Education Program within the Teacher Education Department.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Virginia Thrush Education Scholarship

This scholarship is for full-time freshmen majoring in Comprehensive Social Studies, with a minimum SAT score of 1050 and rank in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.  Priority consideration is given in the following order: Graduates of Shippensburg Area School District; Residents of Cumberland and Franklin counties (Pennsylvania); Residents of Pennsylvania.  Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester, and remain enrolled in Comprehensive Social Studies.

Lynn G. and Evelyn R. Walck Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1200 and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.  Preference will be granted to students from the Waynesboro Area School District.  Qualified students from other geographic areas will be considered only after the pool of preferred students is exhausted.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Robert M. and Virginia L. Walck Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen from Cumberland or Franklin County, PA.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1200 and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

This scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen who are legal residents of Lebanon County, PA.  Applicants are required to complete the Free Application of Federal Student Aid.  This scholarship may be retained for four (4) consecutive academic years provided the recipient meets the following requirements: twelve (12) credits per semester and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.

Wantz/ Gross Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen.  Recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 950 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need and complete the FAFSA.  First preference will be granted to graduates of East Pennsboro Area School District, Cumberland County, PA.  In the event this scholarship can not be awarded to a qualified graduate of the above named school district, residents of Cumberland County, PA will be considered.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Brooke Ashley Weaver Memorial Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen entering an undergraduate program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class. For incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves a Teacher Educations candidate intending to complete the core subjects in Teacher Education for secondary education certification in English.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.

Eileen Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for incoming full-time female freshmen with a minimum SAT score of 1100 and rank in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.  The recipient should demonstrate good character and citizenship. Recipients of this four consecutive year scholarship must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year and complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

Zumbrun/ Korkuch Family Scholarship

For incoming full-time freshmen.  Prospective qualified recipients from the PA Counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster and York will be given priority preference  If there are not qualified students from the preferred counties any application may be considered.  Recipients must be entering the John L. Grove College of Business and pursuing a Business Education degree.  If there are no applicants that meet this scholarship criteria, students who have declared themselves as English majors seeking secondary certification will then be eligible for the scholarship.  Recipients must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 or shown exceptional ability in the business field.  Recipients must rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class.  This is a four-year scholarship with minimum GPA and credit requirements.
