M.S. (1982) Geoenvironmental Studies, Shippensburg University
B.A. (1977) Geoenvironmental Studies, Shippensburg University

I have been the Executive Director for the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee since January 2000.
As the Executive Director for the committee, I am responsible for the day to day operation of the committee, including tracking and drafting environmental legislation, monitoring environmental regulations, and working on constituent environmental issues.  In addition, I represent the Senate on numerous boards and commissions including the Environmental Quality Board, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, the Mining and Reclamation Advisory Board, the Recycling Fund Advisory Committee, the State Employees’ Retirement System Board, and the Wild Resources Conservation Fund Board.
While employed with the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, I have worked on the “Water Resources Planning Act” (Act 220 of 2002), funding for the popular “Growing Greener” program, the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act (Act 213 of 2004), the Alternative Energy Investment Act (Act 1 of 2008), and legislation dealing with clean water infrastructure (Acts 63 and 64 of 2008).
Prior to working for the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, I was Executive Secretary for the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee.  The Joint Committee is a legislative service agency of the General Assembly comprised of nine senators and nine members of the House of Representatives.  I worked for the Joint Conservation Committee from 1986 to 2000.  While with the Joint Committee, I was responsible for coordinating all committee meetings and public hearings, overseeing the publication of the committee newsletter and reports, and preparation of the committee’s budget.  The environmental issues that I worked on included water resources management, forest resources planning, land use and growth management, waste disposal and recycling, and funding for Pennsylvania’s state parks.

I have been an adjunct faculty member with the Geography-Earth Science Department since 1988.
