Geography-Earth Science Annual Photo Contest

The Geography-Earth Science department has been holding an annual photo contest since 2009 and we have seen some fantastic entries. For geographers and earth scientists, photography is one of the many ways we collect field data, so it's important that we encourage our students, faculty, and staff to hone their skills. This photo contest is open to all Geo-ES faculty, staff, students, and alumni. You can submit up to three digital photos. Each photo must include a short (one paragraph) description explaining the location and the Geography-Earth Science theme to which it relates. The top three (3) photos in each category plus one student Grand Prize Winner ($50 prize) will be selected by popular vote. All winning photos will be framed and displayed in Shearer Hall for a full year. Criteria for selection include photographic quality, essay quality, and thematic quality.

Voting for our 2018 contest is closed

Voting for the 2018 photo contest closed on March 30. Stay tuned for the announcement of winners! In the meantime, you can still view the student entries and alumni/faculty/staff entries.

This year, the faculty will be selecting a student Grand Prize Winner ($50 prize) for the photo and caption that best illustrates the theme of sustainability, to celebrate our new program in sustainability.
