Recognizing the rich resource ESL students have in the first language, his work particularly addresses the challenge that a mostly monolingual body of teachers have in supporting ESL students while simultaneously developing their multilingual abilities. In the Department of Teacher Education , Dr. Keyes teaches  courses about working with ESL students as well as the graduate reading courses. During his Pizza with a Prof, Dr. Keyes is interested in discussing graduate school (e.g. the application process), his research and teaching fields, and his travel to the Dominican Republic with Reach Out this year.
