Honors Student Organization
Letter from HSO President Chelsea Meier
Dear class of 2015,
Welcome to the Shippensburg University Honors Program! First, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on graduating from high school, making that tough college decision, and receiving acceptance into the Honors Program here at Shippensburg. I promise that these will be some of the greatest years of your life! Honors Student Organization members, professors, and administrators are excited to meet you! I look forward to working with all of you to make the 2011-2012 academic year incredible!
I was very nervous to come to college; I did not know what to expect. So to help diminish your possible anxiety, HSO students have come up with some advice to help you make the most of your college years!
Here are some helpful tips:
1. Time management is crucial. It is possible to balance a great social life with academics as long as you take the time to plan for each.
2. Be a part of something. Get involved. The HSO is a wonderful way to do this! We have a little something for everyone when it comes to participating in committees (you will hear more about these at orientation). Freshmen are vital sources for new ideas so do not be afraid to contribute! By getting involved in organizations such as the HSO, you meet new people, form lasting relationships, and attain valuable experience and leadership positions.
3. How much you get out of your college experience depends on how much you put into it. This goes for both your education as well as your extracurricular activities. The Honors Student Organization is only as strong as the students who participate in it, so we always look forward to new members with fresh perspectives! Also, be sure to attend class sessions, as attendance is reflected in your grades!
4. Enjoy every moment because, in spite of the fact that college may initially seem like a daunting task, it flies by. This is your time for a fresh start, so become the person who you have always wanted to be. Do not be afraid to make mistakes, have fun along the way, and learn from them in the end. Take risks and take advantage of every opportunity.
I hope to see all of you at Freshmen Orientation! If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming year please contact me at cm4994@ship.edu. Also, become friends with Honors Program-Shippensburg on Facebook to stay updated throughout the summer!
Again, I look forward to meeting each and every one of you! I promise that this year will be the best year of your life so far! See you soon!
