Explore and gain new ideas for faculty development, build a regional network of colleagues, and build your professional portfolio.

This one day symposium is designed to showcase innovative models and practices designed to support various aspects of faculty professional development. It includes concurrent presentations, roundtable discussions focused on particular topics, and networking opportunities. Individuals involved in leading and conducting faculty professional development activities are invited to attend, submit presentation proposals, and to contribute to a post-symposium online monograph. The schedule of presentations will be available on April 28, 2014.

This symposium will include presentations that highlight innovative faculty professional development models and strategies designed to support:

  • faculty learning communities and peer mentoring activities
  • the differentiated needs of new, mid-career, veteran, and adjunct faculty
  • the exploration and adoption of effective teaching and assessment strategies
  • the effective use of student and peer evaluations to improve teaching and learning
  • faculty in leadership positions
  • the promotion and tenure process
  • faculty grant and research activities
  • linking service, scholarship, research, and teaching
  • the structure, function, funding, and assessment of faculty development programs

Location and Directions

This event will be held at the Shippensburg University Conference Center. For GPS or other mapping software, use the address 500 Newburg Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257. For driving directions to the Conference Center (be sure to following directions to the Conference Center, not to Shippensburg University) go to http://www.conferencecenteratshipu.com/index.php/contacts/directions.html. The Conference Center is building #49 on the Shippensburg campus map at https://www.ship.edu/Visit/Campus_Maps. There is ample parking in front of the Conference Center, and parking permits/passes/stickers are not needed and there is no charge for parking.

Information for Presenters

Information for Presenters: Standard presentations and roundtable discussions will be allotted a total of 60 minutes each. For standard presentation, presenters should plan for no more than 50 minutes of presentation, allowing 10 minutes for questions and answers. For roundtable discussions, presenters should plan on 20-30 minutes of an informal table top discussion, allowing for 30-40 minutes of open dialogue and discussion among the 8-10 roundtable participants. Each presentation room will ONLY be equipped with a projector, wireless internet, a long table at the front/side of the room for presentation materials, flip chart and markers, and chairs for the audience will be arranged theater style. Presenters are expected to bring their own presentation laptop (or other suitable device); presenters who plan to bring an Apple product as their presentation computer should also bring their own adapter. Presenters are expected to bring any additional materials that they may need to achieve the learning objectives of their presentation. Presentation handouts are not required; presenters who wish to provide handouts should plan to bring 35-40 copies as copy facilities will not be available at the Conference Center. Presenters will have the opportunity to contribute their presentation slides (and/or other materials) for posting on the conference website, and/or to contribute to a post-symposium online monograph; presenters will receive additional information about these opportunities close to the start of the symposium.
