 SPRING 2011 CAMP GBLUES! April 28, & 29!!!

logo

In order to get there, we need your help.

In end of year surveys children often indicate "Camp" as the highlight of their year!  This amazing tradition is unique and something to be treasured, but in order for us to continue to offer this opportunity, it is incredibly important that we have your help.   Unfortunately we will not be able to sign-up volunteers on the fly as we were able in the past.  This year, as per district policy we MUST ensure that every volunteer has the appropriate clearances to complete the tasks needed to continue camp programs.  This will require that you act NOW in order to get the necessary clearances in time for CAMP.  If we are unable to get the necessary volunteers by April 1, 2011, we will NOT be able to run camp as an overnight program. So please consider giving your time, energy and support to Camp GBLUES once again this year! Below you will find the different volunteer areas that we need to have staffed.  These are also listed on the sign in the lobby at GBLUES.  Please SIGN UP today and if you don't have the clearances, please start the process immediately!  If you are in need of financial assistance, please notify either of us and we will see what we can do to assist you.

THANK YOU!!!  Sean Cornell and Pat Taylor, Co-Directors

FAMILY LEADERS

Family Leaders are responsible for guiding their groups from activity to activity throughout the day.  Student Teachers and other guests will be leading lessons so we will need volunteers to move children from lesson site to lesson site.  We would like to have at least two, but prefer three family leaders per group so that we can easily accomodate the needs of the children.  If a child needs to leave the group for any reason, i.e. to use the restroom, go to the infirmary, etc. they should be escorted by a Family Leader.  Having multiple leaders ensures smooth transitions for everyone involved. So please volunteer to assist in this worthwhile activity. All volunteers in this category, will need to have ALL volunteer clearances (Level I and Level II).  The good thing is that once you have these clearances and as long as you continue to volunteer in/around the school, your clearances will be valid from year to year.  Please remember, ultimately that the children really enjoy having their parents participate and share in their day of exploration, and learning so please make the time to join us!

Thursday, April 28, 2011

We need approximately 24 Family Leaders for Thursday (8 Families, 3 leaders each).  The shift for leaders will begin upon arrival (between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m.) and will conclude after the bus departs with the K-2 grade children around 3:30 p.m.  A few family leaders are asked to stay on until the evening volunteers arrive.  Please let us know on the sign-up if you can stay through the dinner hour.  To sign-up please indicate your availability by clicking the link below.

Friday, April 29, 2011

We will need approximately 12 Family Leaders for Friday (4 Families, 3 leaders each).  The shift for leaders will begin upon arrival (by 7:30 a.m.) and will conclude after the bus departs with the 3-5 grade children around 12:30.

OVERNIGHT VOLUNTEERS

- Overnight volunteers are needed to assist with end of the day supervision, ideally beginning around dinner time and continuing until breakfast the next morning.  During this time, volunteers will assist students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade by getting them settled in their bunkhouse, participating in any evening activities, and ensuring their safety throughout the night.  Overnight volunteers are asked to remain at Camp until breakfast time when other volunteers arrive for morning activities.  We ask that you, please arrive by 6:00 p.m on Thursday so that we have adequate supervision after the family leader volunteers complete their time with us.  We will need at least 16 volunteers (8 males and  females) to stay with the children in the bunkhouses.

RUNNERS:

Runners are volunteers who assist the Directors and School Staff with any necessary errands that may arise.  These might inlcude driving back to Shippensburg to collect additional materials, assisting with communication on camp, conveying messages to teachers, students, etc.  Runners are very important because a variety of items always come up that need to be attended to at the last minute.  We estimate that we will need two runners on the first day (Thursday) and one on (Friday).   Your role and responsibilities may change so flexibility is necessary.

GEAR HAULERS

Gear Haulers are volunteers who assist with the transportation of materials to and from camp.  Haulers will need to be available beginning at 7:15 at Luhrs to load gear and drive it up to Camp.  We need approximately 6 haulers to carry the gear and materials (depending on vehicle size). Larger SUV's or trucks work best.   Family Leaders may also wish to assist in hauling gear to reduce the number of vehicles needed for transportation.
