Faculty Resources
A Statement for your Course Syllabus
Although the Learning Center does its best to promote its services to students, faculty referrals are still the primary reason students seek assistance. Please let your students know that the Learning Center is available to help them improve their academic performance by making an announcement in class and including a statement in your course syllabus.
For your convenience, we suggest the following:
If you feel you need extra help to improve your academic performance in this course or any of your other courses, please consider making an appointment with a tutor or learning specialist in the Learning Center (LC). The LC is located on the lower level of Lehman Library, right below Starbucks.
Classroom visits and/or Mini-workshops
If you would like someone to come to your class to make an announcement about our programs and services and/or conduct a course relevant mini-workshop, we would be happy to do so. If you d like to set something up, call Dr. Nanette Hatzes at 477-1182 to arrange a classroom visit.
Study Groups
We are also available to help your students form effective study groups. Participating in study groups can be an effective way to promote active learning and to engage students in meaningful discussions about course content. The following link provides general study skill tips (link) as well as guidance to students who want to form study groups. Please feel free to share this information with your students. If you would be interested in having a member of our staff help your students with the formation of study groups, contact Dr. Nanette Hatzes at X1182.
Peer Tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders
Each semester, the Learning Center hires approximately 40 students who serve as peer tutors and Supplemental Instruction leaders. If you would like to recommend a tutor for a tutoring or SI leader position, please go to the employment opportunities link for more information.
