The focus of these library sessions is to help you to build fundamental skills in political science research. You will be introduced to an array of types of research tools. The following items are a selection of research tools available to you.

1. Subject Encyclopedias

There are two important electronic collections of specialized subject encyclopedias:

Gale Virtual Reference Library - this collection can be searched by unlimited number of simultaneous users
Oxford Reference Online - this collection can be searched by one user at a time. Unlimited searching is available for many of the most important individual titles

3. Finding Information from Think Tanks and Other Research Sources

PAIS International - this core index to political science and public policy information indexes journals as well as books and publications by think tanks, NGOs, and research institutes. It also includes coverage of important U.S. and foreign government publications. Often, you can search the "Source" field with the name of the think tank, i.e. "Heritage Foundation" or "Brookings Institution".
CQ Researcher - a sophisticated weekly newsmagazine. Each issue focuses on one important issue of current interest. Includes excellent selective recommendations on key documents, reports, articles, and relevant organizations.
