Statistics - United StatesGeneral Sources- Statistical Abstract of the United States - This is the fundamental starting point for any research involving U.S. statistics. The Statistical Abstract provides up-to-date tables of statistics for most areas of American business, society, education, family life, employment, and other aspects. Most importantly, tables will always list the sources for their data. This will lead you to the most detailed and up-to-date source for your statistical topic.
- Earlier Editions - The Census Bureau provides an online archive of the annual statistical abstract back to 1878, as well as a very useful compendium, Historical Statistics of the United States, Colonial Times to 1970.
- LexisNexis Statistical Universe - This subscription database (available to SU users, both on- and off-campus) indexes statistical tables and publications found in publications of the United States goverment as well as industry, trade association, research institutes and other organizational sources.
- U.S. Census Bureau - This is the home page of the major statistical agency of the U.S. Government. It feature an array of tools and approaches to obtaining statistical information.
- American Fact Finder - This Census Bureau tool provides easy access to population, housing, economic, and geographic data. It includes a handy fact sheet feature providing information about specific U.S. states, counties, and local communities.
Population and Human Development- Population and Household Economic Topics (U.S. Census Bureau) - This major section of the Census Bureau website provides data for a wide range of demographic topics, including the elderly, children, families, women, race, immigration, migration, poverty, education, occupations, and many others.
Health- National Center for Health Statistics - This site is the major gateway to U.S. health statistics.
- FastStats - This site features easy access pages which provide the most commonly requested heath stats on 100+ health topics. Each FastStats page provides links to source information for each statistic as well as providing links to the specific health agency websites responsible for providing more detailed information.
- Health, United States, 2008 - This is the major annual U.S. health statistics publication. It tracks trends in U.S. health and compiles a large array of statistical tables. The site provides access to year of this publication, back to 1975.
EducationBusiness and Industry- Business and Industry (U.S. Census Bureau) - This major section of the Census Bureau website includes data from the economic census, monthly and quarterly economic indicators, and variety of other sources and business sectors.
Labor- Bureau of Labor Statistics - This is the major site for all types of U.S. labor statistics, including: inflation and prices (including U.S. import and export prices), employment and unemployment, pay and benefits, spending and time use, productivity, and workplace injuries.

- UN Statistical Yearbook - The authoritative annual summary of international statistics, produced by the UN Statistics Division. - World Bank Key Development Data and Statistics - This site from the World Bank provides access to a broad range of social and development indicators for the countries of the world. Especially useful are the "Country Profiles" and "By Topic" search features. It includes data on population, health, education, poverty, environment, economics, technology, trade, and foreign investment. Data can be displayed or downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet.
- Google Public Data Explorer - This service from Google Labs (still being developed) provides powerful ways to visualize statistical data. It includes a large subset of the World Development Indicators (World Bank) and the OECD Factbook, as well as other international statistics.

Population and Human Development- UN Demographic Yearbook
- This annual statistical yearbook provides worldwide population data from the 1930s to the present. Includes data on population, births, deaths, abortions, infant and maternal deaths, marriages and divorces. - Statistics of the Human Development Report (UNDP) - The Human Development Report of this United Nations agency provides comprehensive data on a wide range of data on human social well being and development, including such at topics as migration, human rights, literacy, life expectancy, poverty, gender issues, health trends, income disparity, and government expenditures on health and education.
Health- WHO Statistical Information System - This site includes comprehensive health data compiled by the World Health Organization. Create custom tables for specific countries and regions for a vast array of health indicators.
- HNPStats (World Bank) - Find data on Health, Nutrition, and Population worldwide, based on the compilations and statistical databases of the World Bank.
Education- UNESCO Statistical Institute Data Centre - Provides extensive data on education worldwide, including primary, secondary and higher education. Also includes sections on science and technology research and culture and communications data.
- EdStats Database (World Bank) - View snapshot tables of important educational indicators by country, or create custom tables from extremely detailed database of worldwide education statistics.
Labor- LABORSTA - Search the major database for international labor-related statistics, produced by the International Labour Office (ILO).
