Juan Williams to speak at scholarship benefit program
Juan Williams, acclaimed author and political analyst, is guest speaker Feb. 19 at Shippensburg University's annual Helping Our People Excel (H.O.P.E.) Diversity Scholarship benefit program.
The annual pr
ogram commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and raises funds for the scholarship, formerly called the Gifted Minority Scholarship.
The annual dinner is at 6 p.m. in Heiges Field House followed at 8 p.m. by his presentation in the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the dinner and lecture are $45 per person. Tickets for just the lecture are $15 per adult or $5 for children 12 years old or younger. Shippensburg University students receive free admission to the lecture with their student ID, and must pick up tickets in advance at the Luhrs Center Box Office.
Individuals may also participate in a reception with Williams at 4:45 p.m. in the Luhrs Center. That cost, which includes a ticket to both the dinner and the lecture, is $75 per person.
Through his writings and appearances on radio and television, Williams has consistently won fans with his perceptive and reasoned thoughtfulness on the many political issues of our day. He is the author of six books that range from the critically acclaimed biography of Thurgood Marshall to the Black religious experience in America.
His latest book is Enough -The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements and Culture of Failure That are Undermining Black America-and What We Can Do About It. Williams is renowned as an expert moderator for seminars and debates. As the senior correspondent at National Public Radio and political analyst for Fox television, Williams is at the cutting edge of America's culture. A book signing will follow lecture.
