The Vagina Monologues is an award winning play written by Eve Ensler. The play's reoccurring themes of empowerment and individuality pushed it to become the foundation for VDAY, a non-profit organization, that uses the proceeds from each performance of the play around the world to support initiatives that promote ending violence against women. The 2009 spotlight campaign for VDAY is "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource, Power to Women and Girls of Democratic Republic of the Congo." Proceeds from the Shippensburg performance will also benefit Sexual Assault /Rape Crises in Cumberland County.
The 29-member cast and crew, the largest ever to present the play at Shippensburg, will honor Vagina Warriors at each show. These are women and men in the community that work for equality for women and girls.
