University schedules annual Children's Fair for March 28
All area children are invited to Shippensburg University's 27th annual Children's Fair from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 28 in Heiges Field House. The event, sponsored by the Volunteer Service Office, is to foster a good relationship between the university and the off-campus communities. All activities are designed for children ages 1 through 12.
Promotional flyers are being distributed to all students at area elementary schools. The flyers double as coupons for a free 10-cent ticket. Each game requires one 10-cent ticket. In addition to refreshments and balloons, the fair will offer games, entertainment and educational displays. Proceeds from all booths are used to cover the cost of games, prizes, supplies and decorations for the following year's fair.
To go along with this year's theme of "Once Upon a Fairytale," some new prizes and decorations were added. Artwork created by the students from Grace B. Luhrs, Nancy Grayson and James Burd elementary schools will be displayed at the fair. Among scheduled games are basketball toss, catch of the day, fishing pond, space ball, football throw, bowling and many more.
Educational displays include the Shippensburg Town Band, Mark Welson's Shippensburg Middle School Jazz Band, fingerprinting by the university's Department of Public Safety, and fire displays by the Vigilant Hose Fire Company and West End Fire and Rescue. The Shippensburg German Band, Maggie the Clown, Shippensburg University Act V, Shippensburg Intermediate School Jazz Band and Shippensburg High School greyhound mascot will also provide entertainment.
Participating organizations include Circle K, TKE, Shippensburg Student Ambassadors, PSI CHI, Kappa Sigma, Bridge for Kids, PA Swat, Delta Zeta, SWO/Phi Alpha Sigma Tau, Residence Hall Association, Alpha Omicron Pi, Theta Phi Alpha, PRSSA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, SUEA, GTU, SEAC, IMA, Delta Upsilon, KSRA, Child and Family Center at Shippensburg, Lackhove Hall, STARS, Scholars, Kappa Delta Pi, PCA, Early Childhood Association, Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, Lions Club, Kiwanis, Shippensburg EMS, Shippensburg Senior Activity Center, The LinkS, Pleasant Hall Fire Company, Shippensburg Public Library and University Police.
