Events set for April at Shippensburg University
Events ranging from concerts to discussion of our water resources are planned this month at Shippensburg University. Events are also planned for the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center during April including Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy and an evening with Howie Mandel. Scheduled are:
- April 15 and 16: Spring Film Festival presentation of Slumdog Millionaire, 7 p.m., Orndorff Theatre in the Ceddia Union Building. Free and open to the public. For information, call 477-1693.
- April 16: Proteus Lecture Series presentation by author Charles Fishman on “Dry: The Fate of Water,” 7 p.m., Memorial Auditorium. Free and open to the public. One of America’s preeminent investigative journalists, Fishman did a major story on bottled water in 2007 and it changed the way he thought about water. He is an award-winning senior writer at Fast Company and author of the bestseller The Wal-Mart Effect. His lecture coincides with publication of the spring issue of Proteus, the university’s literary journal. Its theme is “Water and Our World.” A book signing will follow his talk.
- April 19: SU—Community Orchestra Spring Concert, 3 p.m., H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public. The orchestra, directed by Mark Hartman, serves up a program of Spanish flavored pieces by French, Italian, and Spanish composers. Featured on the program will be violinist Katie Lansdale who will perform two virtuoso show pieces.
- April 28: Dibert Planetarium Series presents its Family Show, 7:30 p.m., Dibert Planetarium, Franklin Science Center. Cost is $1. Learn which stars you can expect to see in the summer skies and say farewell to winter stars still visible in the western sky. Reservations are encouraged and shows start promptly.
