Ship, HACC sign agreement on Honors Programs
Transferring credits from one college to another just got easier for Harrisburg Area Community College students taking honors level courses. An agreement signed May 15 between HACC and Shippensburg University will help students in HACC’s Honors Program to take advantage of honors courses available at Shippensburg when they transfer.
“It’s become apparent that these kinds of associations are very important to the success of the region’s students,” said Edna V. Baehre, Ph.D., president of HACC. “The more we can coordinate our efforts, the more transfer options we can offer to honors students.”
According to Shippensburg President Bill Ruud, “We live in an ever-changing world, but one aspect that never changes is the importance of education in everyone’s life. Ship and HACC have a long history of collaboration and today’s agreement is another link in efforts by both institutions to provide quality education for outstanding students in Central Pennsylvania.”
Some of the criteria for the agreement include:
- HACC students have at least a 3.25 grade point average to be considered for admission to the Shippensburg University Honors Program.
- All honors courses at HACC will be transferable to Shippensburg University.
- HACC students must earn a grade of “B” or higher in an honors course at HACC.
- 12 honors credits must be earned at Shippensburg University to earn one of the university’s Honor’s Program designations on a transcript.
- HACC honors students who transfer to Shippensburg University and are admitted to the Honors Program will have the same scheduling, financial aid and student services considerations as other Shippensburg University honors students.
HACC students who have already taken honors courses and plan to transfer to Shippensburg University can apply for the Honors Program at Shippensburg. Interested students should go on the Shippensburg web site to download the Honors Program application form.
