Little Princess Playhouse to return Oct. 24, 31

After a successful debut last year, the Little Princess Playhouse, sponsored by the Shippensburg University Department of Music and Theatre Arts is returning for a second season with performances this month.

The playhouse will present the double feature of  "Sleeping Beauty & The Pirate Prince" and "Wonderful Willa: The Good Princess Witch" at 10 a.m. and at 11:15 p.m. Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. Both plays will be presented each time during the respective performances.

The Little Princess Playhouse is in Stewart Hall on campus.

Admission is $3 for each double-feature program with tickets available at the door. Those planning to attend should note that seating is limited.

Debuting in February 2009, The Little Princess Playhouse was welcomed with a tremendous response. Jennifer Clough, president of the local MOMS club, brought her children to the spring performances and expressed her enjoyment of the experience. "The small venue, casual environment, short plays and interaction with the actors is a perfect introduction to live theatre for even the youngest participant," she said. "This is a fun outing for the whole family at a bargain price."

The brainchild of Paul and Gretchen Leitner, The Little Princess Playhouse was created to fill a void in local family entertainment. According to Paul Leitner, "It is fun to have theatre right here in town for all our children to enjoy. The response from the campus and the community has been overwhelming. That's why we are back with our second season."

According to director Gretchen Leitner, "We've done Cinderella and Snow White. This season it's Sleeping Beauty. To tie in the Halloween holiday, we've added a handsome pirate prince and a friendly witch."

The cast is made up of university students and, she said, "Working with student actors is energizing and exciting. They offer creative zest and energy, which I find contagious. Students understand the importance of engaging the audience in the performance, and always offer moments of unexpected laughter!"
