UPDATE (7 p.m.)Facilities management personnel are continuing their efforts to restore power to campus and have been successful in returning power to additional buildings. That work will continue tonight with nearly all buildings scheduled to have power by Wednesday morning. Based on the damage and possible weather-related issues, it is expected that power will NOT be restored by tomorrow morning to the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center and the Ship Rec Center. All employees are reminded that they should report as scheduled.
Power out to half of campus
Electricity is out to approximately half of campus as of 2 p.m. after contractors working on the CUB addition struck a major power line causing a surge that damaged two main circuits. It's expected that the outage will last at least 24 hours and possibly 48 hours or longer.
Power is still available in the main academic buildings so classes will continue as scheduled. In addition, the telephone system remains in operation.
The university will remain open and operate as normal as possible during the outage, and employees should report as scheduled. Individuals who need computer access may use the computer lab on the second floor of the Mathematics and Computing Technologies Center or other labs in that building.
Reisner Dining Hall is open for limited service during the outage. Etter Health Center also remains open. Reed Operations Center remains opens and University Police are open 24 hours a day.
Further information will be provided when possible.
