Two receive Shippensburg University Provost’s Award

Two Shippensburg University faculty members are recipients of the 2011 Provost’s Award for Extraordinary Service. Recipients of this year’s award are Dr. Allen Dieterich-Ward, assistant professor of history and philosophy, and Dr. Laurie Cella, assistant professor of English.

According to Dr. Barbara G. Lyman, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, they received the award for their tireless work “to see that the Celebration of Student Research Conference was a huge success. Last year’s conference provided a spectacular opportunity to showcase the myriad of research conducted by Shippensburg students.”

She said they were identified as the strongest driving forces behind last year’s program. Dieterich-Ward, she said, provided exceptional leadership to the program as well as motivating his colleagues to participate in the program. Cella, she said, was  crucial in coordinating key components of the conference, including arranging for the keynote speakers, assisting in planning the conference schedule and was involved in the “Write the Ship” component of the conference.

The award is a plaque, a certificate and $500 each to use toward professional development activities this year.

In addition, five faculty members received a Provost’s Award for Extraordinary Service Honorable Mention which was a certificate and $100 toward professional development activities this year. Receiving the award were Dr. Marc Renault, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Curtis Zaleski, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Blandine Mitaut, assistant professor of modern languages; Dr. Cynthia Botteron, associate professor of political science; and Dr. Kirk Moll, assistant professor and library department chairperson.
