National publication highlights organ donor project
Efforts by members of the Shippensburg
University athletics department to raise awareness of organ donation have
received recognition in a national publication.
A recent edition of NATANews, the publication of the National
Athletics Trainers’ Association, includes an article about Wes
Mallicone, director of sports medicine for the university, and the liver
transplant that saved his life.
The article, titled “Organ Donation: The Ultimate
Gift,” focuses on Mallicone’s successful transplant and the efforts by members
of the athletics department to raise awareness of organ donation in recognition
of him. The department teamed with the Gift of Life donor program, the region’s
organ and tissue transplant network, in the project.
The
article is available by clicking here.
A video created by the university’s
sports information office about Mallicone and his battle is available here.
