Presentation
Feb. 28 to highlight Haiti program
The
Shippensburg University International Travel Series will present “Building Community in Rural Haiti” at
6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in Orndorff Theatre in the Ceddia Union Building.
Members
of the campus community presenting the program are Jonas Celius, Olivia Ickes, Bryant Snyder, Dr.
Blandine Mitaut and Dr. Agnès Ragone.
In
January, Shippensburg students and faculty traveled to Haiti where they held
classes and participated in a service-learning project. The presentation will include slides and the experiences visiting the capital, Port-au-Prince, and
living in a rural village on the Haitian island of La Gonâve.
The
service learning project that started as building a playground for local
children turned into a community endeavor uniting the villagers and
Shippensburg team. The motto of the island nation, “L’Union fait la force”
(Unity brings strength), became the theme of this uplifting experience.
The program is co-sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and the International Studies Program. More information on
the International Studies program is available at www.ship.edu/ism.
