Faculty member to present talk April 11

Dr. Matthew J.C. Cella, assistant professor of English at Shippensburg University, will present “You Don't Have to Hike the Trails to Care About the Forest: Disability Narratives and the Environment” at 3:30 p.m. April 11 in Dauphin Humanities Center 051. The program is open to the public.

The talk examines how autobiographical narratives by people with disabilities challenge normative (even ableist) constructions of the body-environment relationship. The study of these disability narratives provides an opportunity to develop a richer and more inclusive ecological criticism.

Cella has published articles and reviews in a variety of journals, including Western American LiteratureMELUS and ISLE.  His book, Bad Land Pastoralism in Great Plains Fiction, was a finalist for the Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize in 2011.
