BOG OKs resolution honoring President Ruud
The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education today approved a resolution honoring President Bill Ruud for his contributions to public higher education and to the students of Shippensburg University.
The resolution was unanimously approved at the BOG meeting today (April 11) in Harrisburg and signed by BOG Chair Guido M. Pichini. Ruud, who was named 15th president of Shippensburg in January, 2007, will assume the presidency of the University of Northern Iowa June 1.
Following is the board’s resolution:
the Contributions of Dr. William N. Ruud
WHEREAS, Dr. William N. Ruud has served as president of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania since February 2007, during which time the university experienced an increase in enrollment and a double-digit increase in applications, including an increase in applications from minority students; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Shippensburg University expanded its graduate programs to areas such as Harrisburg, Hanover and York, and began the development of a new Academic Master Plan that will guide the university in the enhancement of its programming; and
WHEREAS, during the tenure of Dr. William N. Ruud, a number of campus improvement projects were completed, including the renovation and expansion of Dauphin Humanities Center, Reisner Dining Hall, Huber Arts Center and the Ceddia Union Building, and the construction of new student housing was begun; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William N. Ruud has helped raise the stature of Shippensburg University and the entire Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education through his service to various national and regional organizations, including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Professional Development Committee, the American Council on Education's Commission on Effective Leadership and the Capital Region Literacy Council; and
WHEREAS, as president, Dr. William N. Ruud helped to expand community outreach opportunities through the establishment of the Growing Edges Community Counseling Clinic, which offers free counseling services to the community, as well as numerous cooperative ventures with local municipalities in areas such as planning and regional development; and
WHEREAS, Dr. William N. Ruud will leave Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in May to become president of the University of Northern Iowa;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education expresses its sincere appreciation for these and the many other contributions Dr. William N. Ruud has made to public higher education and to the students of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Governors extends best wishes to Dr. William N. Ruud in all of his future endeavors.
