Scholar to discuss Holocaust research Sept. 11
Shippensburg University will host a talk Sept. 11 about Holocaust research.
Dr. Geoffrey Megargee, senior applied research scholar at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, will speak from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in Grove Hall Forum. His talk, "Aspects of Nazism: The Role of the Military and New Research on the Camps," is open to the public.
He will explore the attitudes within the German military that prepared it to support the Nazi regime, as well as recent discoveries about the Nazi camp system.
Megargee, project director and editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933-1945, received his Ph.D. in military history from the Ohio State University and has published widely on the German military and the Holocaust.
The talk is sponsored by the university's departments of history and philosophy and modern languages. It is part of the Campus Outreach Lecture Program of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.
