Fulbright specialist to present program Sept. 18

Dr. Richard Lanigan will present “Contact Confusion in Perception: West Meets East, One Actuality Becomes Two Realities” at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in Dauphin Humanities Center 051. The free program, sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences, is open to the public.

Lanigan is senior Fulbright program specialist and University Distinguished Scholar and professor emeritus of communicology at Southern Illinois University where he completed 41 years of university teaching and research in intercultural and international conflicts, language philosophy and semiotics. He has served as the founding director of International Communicology Institute, vice president of the International Association for Semiotic Studies and senior Fulbright Fellow and program specialist, in addition to his extended commitment to scholarship and publications.

His talk compares Western and Eastern visual perspective using various examples of art such as paintings, drawings and photos.
