University to host forum on science and religion Feb. 12

Shippensburg University will host the Sixth Annual Forum on Science and Religion on Feb. 12.

The forum features two presentations that coincide with international Darwin Day celebrations. The presentations will be given by Dr. Ted Davis, professor of the history of sciencteddavise at Messiah College. 

The afternoon presentation is 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Orndorff Theatre in the Ceddia Union Building and is open to Shippensburg University students, faculty, administration, and invited guests. In his presentation, titled “Intelligent Design on Trial,” Davis will reflect on the 2005 Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School Board trial and comment on issues surrounding “intelligent design.”

An evening presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. in Old Main Chapel is open to the public. That presentation, “Darwin and Religion: Rumors of Warfare in a Post-Darwinian Age,” will address more general themes related to the relationships between science and religion.
