Award-winning film to be shown April 24

The Great Beauty, an award-winning Italian film, will be shown at 7 p.m. April 24 at Shippensburg University.

The showing, in Dauphin Humanities Center 051, is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the university’s Interdisciplinary Arts Program.

The film won the Academy Award and Golden Globe award for best foreign language film, and the BAFTA Award for best film not in the English language.

The 2013 film was co-written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino. According to online reviews, the film centers around Jep Gambardella, a famous and retired author, who spends the night after his 65th birthday party walking through the ruins and city streets of Rome where he encounters various characters while reflecting on his life, his first love, and sense of unfulfillment.
