Pride & Gender Equity (PAGE) Center

The PAGE Center of Shippensburg University advances the equality and empowerment of students, faculty, and staff. In line with the SU Mission Statement, we assist students with their personal, social, and ethical development through educational programming, specialized resources, celebrations of the communities’ achievements by and for students, and the pursuit of social justice. We are dedicated to fostering a safer, more inclusive educational environment for all members of our campus.

Shippensburg University's Pride & Gender Equity (PAGE) Center offers a focal point for all university community members who support the wellbeing of gender-based violence survivors, LGBTQ+ students, women, LGBTQ+ men, and agender students. We welcome all!

Using trauma-informed and empowerment frameworks to guide our actions, staff and volunteers of the PAGE Center support and advocate for victims of sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, and other gender-based crimes. The PAGE Center Director is a confidential resource for survivors of sexual or physical violence. We provide lessons and materials relevant to LGBTQ+ communities, including interrupting systems of sexism, homophobia and transphobia, and racism.

The center offers:

  • A confidential resource (PAGE Director) to discuss sexual/physical victimization.
  • A commitment to respect and building trusting relationships
  • A resource for learning and matters relevant to LGBTQ+ communities

Land Acknowledgement

We are located on unceded Susquehannock land, land that originally belonged to the Seneca-Cayuga Nation . "It is important to understand the longstanding history that has brought you to reside on the land, and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgments do not exist in a past tense, or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation." (Northwestern University)

What is a Land Acknowledgment Statement? A Land Acknowledgment is a formal statement that recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional occupants of this land and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories.

Why does Shippensburg University acknowledge the land? To recognize the land is an expression of gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on, and a way of honoring the Indigenous people who cared for our land prior to and through European colonialism.  Land acknowledgments do not exist in a past tense, or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation. It is worth stating that acknowledging the land is Indigenous protocol.
