Cohorts and Program Offerings
Ship Education in Harrisburg and Spring Grove
Shippensburg University has partnered with the Dixon University Center and Spring Grove School District to offer the following programs designed for working professionals. These programs offer a convenient location, online components, evening and/or weekend courses and the respected reputation of Shippensburg’s outstanding educational leadership programs.
Superintendent Letter of Eligibility Post-M.Ed. Program
- For those who currently hold an administrative/supervisory position
- Only 6-7 courses, depending on student background (5 courses and 2 practicums)
- 3 weekends a semester per course
- All courses accepted toward the Widener Doctor of Education degree offered at Ship
- Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) approved
Leadership Residency Program Option
*First of its kind in Pennsylvania!
- Fully field-based practicum series of six residencies that focus on key leadership competencies and is Act 45 approved
- Complete residencies in your home school district in about one year while remaining in your current position
- Designed for those interested in the Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility and tailored for those seeking alternative pathways to executive- level certification
- Each residency is co-supervised by a university faculty member, a practicing expert in the field, and a district-based facilitator/mentor.
- Only 6-8 candidates competitively selected for the cohort forming Fall 2013

School Administration M.Ed. PLUS Principal Certificate
Blended Face-to-face and Online
- 33-credit cohort program allows students to earn both the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and the Principal Certificate at the same time
- Complete in 2½ years or less
- 3 weekends a semester per course
- Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) approved
Supervisory/Principal Certificate
Post-M.Ed. Program
- For those who have earned a master’s degree and want the principal’s or supervisor’s certificate
- Only 6-7 courses, depending on student background (5 courses and 2 practicums)
- 3 weekends a semester per course
- Supervisory certificate offered in the following fields:
Communication/English, Counseling, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Environmental Education, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Pupil Services, Reading, Science, Social Studies/Citizenship, Special Education
- Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) approved
