Alex's Story
NAME: Alex Anstett

FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG
The friends I have made. I'm constantly
meeting new people at Ship and it's great to make friends with people who have
so many different interests and qualities. I've also had the opportunity to
meet a lot of foreign exchange students, some of whom I've made lasting
relationships with.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:
I am currently in the process of
trying to learn French as my New Year’s Resolution and I DJ every Tuesday night
at Knute's Pub and Grille in Shippensburg.
CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES
WSYC 88.7 FM, Public
Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), United Communications Association
(UCA), and Shippensburg Boxing Club (freshman year).
SCHOLARSHIP:
Albert A. Mason Scholarship for Outstanding Sophomore or
Junior Communication/Journalism Student. This scholarship was awarded to me
last year by the Communication/Journalism Department and in addition to helping
me pay for my education, it has given me several new opportunities. The Comm/Journ department
hired me in the fall to help in its effort to gain accreditation from the
Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications
(ACEJMC). I was able to develop a Public Relations campaign that helped us earn
the site visit team's recommendation for accreditation in November.
INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
I am currently interning with CBS 21
Harrisburg, WHP as a reporting intern, working on local event coverage.
STUDENT RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
In the Fall 2012 semester, the
Communication/Journalism Department hired me to help in its campaign to gain
accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass
Communications (ACEJMC). My responsibilities included developing a system of
two-way communication between the faculty and students, recruiting students to
attend the accreditation meetings and developing promotional materials.
MOST MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:
The best lesson
I've learned at Ship has been to pursue every great opportunity that comes your
way. It might scare you at first and you might not think you can handle the new
responsibilities, but if you just go for it, it eventually becomes easier to
keep taking on new challenges. It's the only way to grow.
Most recently I DJ’d for
Shippensburg Up Til Dawn and for Ship Mini-Thon.
WHAT I DO FOR FUN:
Spend time with my friends.
MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
I plan on working in the
Communication/Journalism field, hopefully in New York.
