IsabelIsabel's Story

NAME: Isabel Scott

MAJOR: Finance and Management

FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:

My favorite thing about Shippensburg is the great atmosphere with the students and faculty. You truly feel like you are part of a family here and the surrounding community is so supportive.

TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:

I love to workout and run, whether it be weightlifting or playing football. I also enjoy cooking and make really good cookies!

CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:

I am the President of Financial Management Association and am involved with the Honors Program. I am a part of the Student Senate's Budget and Finance Committee and participate with Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity.

SCHOLARSHIP:

I currently have a Board of Governor's Scholarship and the H.O.P.E. Diversity Scholarship. The scholarships have given me one of the most valuable gifts I have ever received, an education. An education is something no one can ever take away from you and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to attend a system of higher education without financial burdens.

INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:

I have had two internships since being here at Shippensburg University. My first internship was my sophomore year at Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, as an intern and eventually worked my way up to Assistant Manager. I was able to work on campus and helped to assist students in opening savings, checking and credit accounts. Through this internship I was able to gain a lot of knowledge involving banking systems, which enhanced what I learned in the classroom. I grew from that experience and am currently working as a Materials Intern for Volvo Construction Equipment. In this internship I am involved in many supply chain and finance functions, which is a different change of pace from my majors. I really enjoy the hands on experience I have gained from working for this company and not to mention the international knowledge I have gained is truly amazing.

STUDENT RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

My first research experience was my study abroad experience in Shanghai, China this past summer. I was able to demonstrate my skills that I have learned at Shippensburg University in the classrooms there and often surpassed those from top name schools. This experience truly changed my outlook on life in a very positive way. I am currently working with a faculty advisor on a Research Project involving analyzing the relationships between new green technologies and financial components. I am hoping analyze a large building and see if "going green" could not only have environmental benefits, but financial ones as well.

MOST MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:

My most meaningful experience would have to be the semester I spent taking Dr. Dagnes' political science class. I have never been so excited and interested in any subject! She is truly one of the best professors I have ever had and makes learning fun and engaging, which is so important in education.

COMMUNITY SERVICE/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:

I am involved in a lot of Community Activities with Alpha Kappa Psi, the professional business fraternity on campus. This includes helping with food pantries, animal shelters, clothing donations and even volunteering at King's Gap State Park.

WHAT I DO FOR FUN:

For fun I love watching movies, hanging out with friends and shopping!

MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:

After graduation I plan to attend graduate school and hopefully obtaining a master's in Economics. I want start working as a financial analyst for a strong international company and eventually work my way up to a CFO or even CEO of a medium sized company. Although these plans and goals may seem out of reach, I am determined to work hard to achieve them and work to constantly grow as an individual.
