FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:
The faculty is great, the food is good, the location has a lot of perks, the library is very nice and big, the campus is nice (not too big, not too small), the resources are plentiful and there is also a great alumni network.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:
I am a non-traditional student; after high school I joined the U.S. Air Force and worked as an F-16 Avionics Technician for 6 years. I am also married and a proud father of a beautiful little girl.
I am a member of the Investment Club; participate in the Investment Management Program, and the Volunteer Income Tax Association.
I have received several scholarship awards at Shippensburg, including the Student Scholar award from Beta Gamma Sigma, which is an international honor society for business students. I also received a scholarship award from the PA Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a scholarship award from Financial Executives International and a departmental student award from APSCUF. These scholarships have really made student life a lot less stressful. They have been a great reward for my hard work.
Over the summer of 2012, I interned at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts working as a Corporate Audit Intern. This experience really helped me to hone my computer and communication skills. I was working with the audit department on compliance projects, which involved a lot of research, compiling and analyzing data as well as communicating with upper management.
For the 2012-2013 school year I have been interning at TEAM Financial Managers, a local investment management and financial advisory firm with a new location in Shippensburg. At this internship, I have been exposed to a wide array of tasks. These tasks mostly include researching stocks and other investment options, while also taking on larger research projects that analyzed the market and economy as a whole. I have also been very involved with the firms marketing operations as well as client relations.
MOST MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:
There is no way I could narrow it down to one. I have had the pleasure of learning from so many great professors at Ship. From Gen. Ed. to my core business classes and especially within my Finance and Accounting majors, the professors at Ship are always working very hard to provide an ideal learning environment and pass on the knowledge they have acquired from a wide array of past experiences. They always have interesting personal experiences to talk about, whether it is where they have traveled for their studies, or whom they have met, or what they have learned from their experiences.
MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
After considering several great offers and opportunities, I have accepted a job as a Staff Accountant at Boyer & Ritter CPAs in the State College office. So, my first major goal is to pass the CPA exam and after that the possibilities are endless. Most importantly though, I will be spending lots of time with my family.
