FAVORITE THING ABOUT
SHIPPENSBURG:
The small class sizes which allow for a personal level of
education. Professors know you by name and are willing to help you get the most
out of your education.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS
ABOUT ME:
I have been surrounded by antique military vehicles my whole
life. My parents run a military vehicle parts and restoration business that has
allowed me to learn a lot about mechanical operations and body work. Plus I get
to drive tanks, Jeeps, half tracks, and fie WWII cannons! It probably also led
me to pursue a degree in business.
CAMPUS
ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:
Student Senate (Class Representative),
Shippensburg University Student Services Inc. Board of Directors (Secretary),
Shippensburg University Alumni Association (Student representative), Food
Service Committee (Chair), Shippensburg Red Sea student fan section, Geography
and Earth Science Organization (Treasurer), Intramural soccer, basketball, and
volleyball.
SCHOLARSHIP:
Giant
Foods Business Scholarship. This scholarship has allowed me to avoid taking any
loans this year. This is a huge relief when it comes to planning my future and
combating the financial burdens of higher education. What is equally valuable
is the experience I have gained in the business environment with Giant.
INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
I've had two internships with Giant Foods. The first was as a Store
Operations Intern in West Lawn, PA, during Summer 2012.
I monitored receiving operations, performed receiver audits, and confirmed vendor
billing for 15 vendors. I developed a new strategy for shrink management
including inventory rotation schedules, improved production planning, and
increased coaching. The second was in the Spring 2013 semester as a Level II Store Operations Intern in Chambersburg where I am continuing my experience with Giant Foods by becoming
certified to manage a store. I am also developing a project to further
investigate causes of preventable shrink in billing and receiving. In Summer 2013, I will have a Supply
Management Internship with Boeing in Ridley Park, PA, where I will be working in
procurement with buyers and helping in planning negotiations.MOST MEANINGFUL
LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:
For my Sales Management and Personal Selling
classes I wrote two reports based on my experience shadowing an account manager
for NewPenn Trucking. This position combines skills associated with both
marketing and logistics. The project provided thoughtful insight into
possibilities after graduation.
COMMUNITY
SERVICE/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:
I donate time in service projects including
Keystone Kares and Kings Kettle. I also volunteer at a local scout troop when
I’m home.
WHAT I DO FOR FUN:
I
spend a lot of time in the woods hunting, hiking, and camping. Another I reason
I love Ship is for the beautiful public areas in the surrounding mountains. I
also love building things, woodworking, and small mechanical work.
MY
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
I don’t want to limit myself at this point. I will
apply for various positions in operations, procurement, logistics, and sales.
There are certainly opportunities with both companies that I interned with and
I plan on making a decision during my senior year. I expect to see a return on
my academic investment shortly.
