Travis's Story
NAME: Travis Laub
HOMETOWN: Fredericksburg, PA
MAJOR: Finance
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:
Being involved in Alpha Kappa Psi has had a huge impact on my life. I have grown so much as a business professional because of my involvement and leadership in AKPsi. As the current President, I face decisions and responsibilities every day that prepare me for the real world after graduation. I’ve also learned how to work on a team, which is very important to many employers.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:
It’s so hard to pick just one! Shippensburg has so many opportunities for involvement and professional development outside the classroom. Being involved on campus and in the community has been the highlight of my college experience at Shippensburg for the professional skills I’ve gained and the friendships I’ve made.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:
I studied abroad and traveled to six countries outside the U.S., and I recently got engaged.
WHY I TRANSFERRED TO SHIPPENSBURG:
I transferred to Shippensburg because of the accreditation of the John L. Grove College of Business. As a finance major, I’m proud to say that our business education program is held to the same standards as some of the top business schools in the world. I knew I was going to get the best value for my money at Shippensburg University.
CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:
Alpha Kappa Psi - the Professional Business Fraternity, Financial Management Association, Investment Club, University Union & Student Activities EIS Crew
INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
I completed an executive internship with Target Corp during the summer after my junior year, and had a great learning experience. I gained valuable leadership experience in managing a large team of employees while striving to maintain budget controls and drive profitable sales in a retail environment. I also had the chance to work on an independent project in an area of my choosing to analyze a problem and then take steps to correct or improve a process.
COMMUNITY SERVICE/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:
I have participated in many philanthropic activities in my time here on campus and in the community such as Highway-81 cleanup, volunteering at the Chambersburg animal shelter and at the Benjamin Chambers Elementary School Harvest Fair, raising money and walking for Relay for Life, and the Multiple Sclerosis Walk.
WHAT I DO FOR FUN:
In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, play any sports (especially volleyball), watch movies, and just have fun.
MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
I hope to stay in Central PA and obtain a career in the financial services field. After a few years, I think I would like to work towards getting my MBA in Finance and someday run an investment company.
