NAME: Megan Knoster
HOMETOWN: Lewisburg
MAJOR: Psychology

FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:

The array of opportunities that have been provided to me by my major – internship, research and extracurricular.

TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:

I play for Shippensburg University Lady Raiders soccer team.  I can do the worm.

CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:

People Involved Equally (PIE) an organization where students serve as instructors for individuals in the community with disabilities; Psi Chi (National Psychology Honor Society); Women’s Soccer

INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:

I've had two internships: one with the Mental Health Association and one with White Deer Run Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center.

STUDENT/FACULTY RESEARCH PROJECT:

Currently I am participating in two research projects: this is my second semester of studying Altered Responses to Social Emotions in “Binge” Drinkers with Dr. Hale and I am beginning research with Dr. Campbell as well.

MY MOST MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:

Learning to be independent, think for myself and to not give up when things get hard.  We are all presented with opportunities to learn about ourselves. It seems that every year I find out more about myself and what I’m capable of doing. I think the most meaningful experience I have had however was volunteering at Kings Kettle with the Fresh Produce non-profit organization. It allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and talk with others that I may not usually have contact with.

COMMUNITY SERVICE/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:

Franklin Learning Center, All-Inclusive Prom, King’s Kettle, People Involved Equally (PIE), Relay For Life

WHAT I DO FOR FUN:

I usually hang out with my roommates – Tuesday nights are Glee nights. When I’m alone I like to scrapbook ☺

MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:

Attend graduate school to pursue a master's degree in Social Work.
