Seth's Story
NAME: Seth Young
HOMETOWN: Lewisburg, PA
MAJOR: Geoenvironmental Science with GIS certificate
FAVORITE THING ABOUT SHIPPENSBURG:
The people. I have met a lot of
genuinely good people at Shippensburg, both my peers and the faculty. All of my professors, especially in the
Geography-Earth Science Department, have been understanding and willing to help
however they can.
TWO INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT ME:
I play guitar and I garden during the summer.
CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS/SPORTS/ACTIVITIES:
Environmental club, helping with the campus farm, intramural basketball
and volleyball.
SCHOLARSHIP:
I received the Jane H. Ehemann Scholarship for the
2012-2013 academic year. It has lessened
the financial burden of attending a quality university and I am sincerely
grateful for that.
INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
I have an internship this summer doing trail maintenance with the Maine Appalachian Trail Crew.
STUDENT RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
None as of yet but I will be assisting
with various research projects of my peers having to do with the campus farm
once that is up and running.
MOST MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT SHIP:
So far, my most meaningful
educational experience at Ship has been taking a winter course on the island of
Curaçao. Besides just the beautiful
Caribbean weather and scenery, it was awesome to be immersed in such a unique
and diverse culture.
COMMUNITY SERVICE/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:
Over the years, I have done volunteer work trips to New Orleans, West
Virginia, and Maryland and have helped at the local soup kitchen in my
hometown. Here at Ship, I have
volunteered with the Environmental Club to assist with recycling programs and
state park clean-ups.
WHAT I DO FOR FUN:
I love attending
concerts, hiking, playing basketball, playing music, and hanging out with
friends.
MY PLANS AFTER GRADUATION:
To
never stop learning and never stop exploring.
