Message from the Senate President

Welcome to the Ship family! You have just begun your journey into higher education here at Shippensburg. My name is Chris Gray and I am the President of the Student Association for the 2009-2010 school year. As your President, I serve to be a student advocate and to enhance the quality of student life here at Shippensburg as well as to promote a scholarly and friendly environment.

The Student Association is comprised of all undergraduates and is governed by the Student Senate. This is a group of elected peers who work hard to positively impact all aspects of campus life. The Student Senate at Shippensburg University is entrusted to delegate funds that are derived from your student activity fee. This year $2.8 million of your money will be allocated to athletics, clubs, organizations, student conferences, speakers and much more! Ship has over 130 clubs and organizations that are constantly seeking new members, like yourself who demonstrate LeaderSHIP and FriendSHIP.

You have received a great deal of information at orientation about how to get involved here at Shippensburg and I truly hope you get involved. Please feel free to email me at SenPres@ship.edu with any questions or stop by the Student Senate office located in the CUB on the third floor.  We have hard working senators who are more than willing to answer any questions or hear any concerns.

Ship is a great place, not only because of our outstanding faculty, staff, administration, and coaches; but because of the quality of students like you who call Shippensburg University home. Shippensburg is a truly student–oriented university that really allows you to follow your own path.

I have been privileged enough to call Shippensburg University my home for the past four years and have a lot of great experiences and made a lot of great friends that I could only have made here at Ship.  Each person’s story is unique here at Ship but the experiences and friends that you make here will last a lifetime.  I joined the Student Senate my freshman year and it has played a key part of my college experience.  I truly encourage you to find something that you enjoy doing here at Ship just as I have.
