Forever Green Housing Award

The new student housing has received the Central PA Green Building Council award for sustainability in higher education, the “Forever Green” award. 98% of waste during construction was diverted from landfills. Since building the new dorms water usage dropped from 40 gallons/student/day to 20 gallons/student/day. This is a considerable decrease in water consumption in the dorms.

LEED certification

LEED certification is being pursued for the CUB (Silver level) and the new student housing (Basic level).

Central Water-Cooling Plant

The utilities job is underway to switch the campus from coal to natural gas and to build a new central water-cooling plant. A new lay-down area has been installed near the pavilion at Burd Run. All of the crushed stone that is being used for this area is actually from our old campus dorms. This re-purposing has proved to be an extreme cost saving measure, in addition to eliminating the need to quarry rock for this purpose.
