Budgeting for Summer Stipends

Under the URSP, summer stipends are paid at the fixed rate of $6,000 per month plus 18% benefits. Therefore projects requesting summer stipends should budget a total of:

$6,000 (stipend)
+
$1,080 (18% benefits)
= $7,080 per month.

Budgeting for Reassigned Time

Faculty requesting reassigned time for their project must include the full cost of replacement faculty (overload or adjunct). The budgeted amount does not reflect the applicant's salary for the semester in question, but rather the appropriate amount to cover the salary (plus benefits) of the faculty member who will cover the teaching load either through overload or as an adjunct. Note that the applicant must budget for the rank and step that the replacement faculty member will hold during the semester that replacement will take place.

For example, an applicant who will be an Assistant Professor (Step 7) during the semester that reassigned time will take place and who will have his or her class covered by an Associate Professor (Step 8) working an overload must budget the appropriate overload pay for the Associate Professor (Step 8). Similarly, if the same Assistant Professor (Step 7) will have her or his classes covered by an Adjunct (to be hired as Assistant Professor, Step 4), the Adjunct Assistant Professor (Step 4) pay rate would be used.

The applicant should work closely with their Department Chairperson to be sure that an individual can be identified to cover for reassigned time and that the appropriate budget amount is included with the grant application. All applicants must include a letter of support form their Department Chairperson that details how the applicant's reassigned time will be covered.

BUDGETING FOR OVERLOAD REPLACEMENTS:

APPLICANTS SHOULD USE THE FORMULA IN THE CURRENT CBA ALONG WITH APPENDIX G TO CALCULATE THE REPLACEMENT COSTS FOR OVERLOADS.

Article 25 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement [NOTE: this link will take you to the APSCUF Web site and requires Adobe Acrobat to view] details the payment of overload compensation to Faculty, indicating formulas and salary scales to be used. The applicant is responsible for determining the appropriate amount for his or her particular replacement circumstances.

The following is an example of the TYPICAL case where an applicant's reassigned time would be covered by another Faculty member though a standard "Workload Hour Overload". Individual applicant's circumstances and replacement needs may vary, and the CBA should be consulted in all cases.

BUDGETING FOR ADJUNCT REPLACEMENTS:

APPLICANTS SHOULD USE THE FORMULA IN THE CURRENT CBA ALONG WITH ARTICLE 22 TO CALCULATE THE REPLACEMENT COSTS FOR ADJUNCTS.

Adjuncts should be budgeted using the appropriate salary in Article 22 of the CBA [NOTE: this link will take you to the APSCUF Web site and requires Adobe Acrobat to view] for the rank and step of the REPLACEMENT to be hired. Example for an ADJUNCT to be hired at Assistant Professor, Step 4:
