Committee on Research with Human Subjects

The Committee on Research with Human Subjects protects the rights, welfare, and well-being of subjects involved in research conducted or supported by the students and faculty of Shippensburg University and helps ensure that such research is carried out in accordance with the regulations described at 45 CFR part 46. The committee serves as the university's Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Shippensburg University has a formal agreement with OHRP to comply with the regulations pertaining to human subject protections.

All research involving human subjects and participants must be approved by The Committee. Please visit the forms and guidance link for more details.

Academic Year 2022-2023 Meeting Schedule

Meeting dates for full review sessions for the 2022-23 Academic Year are listed below. Full review sessions are held at 4:00 PM in RM 106 in the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library. Protocols requiring full committee review must be submitted no less than one-week prior to a regularly scheduled meeting.

During the summer, committee co-chairs will be intermittently available to review IRB applications. If the nature of your research necessitates full committee review, your application will be placed on the agenda for the first full committee meeting in the fall semester.

How to Submit an Application to Use Human Subjects in Research:

All protocols for research projects involving human subjects should be submitted following the instructions and forms linked under "Forms & Guidance" above. Applicants must submit the completed forms and ALL other necessary documentation. Questions may be sent via email to irb@ship.edu
