Smart technology installed in the classroom for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Business department. Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. System includes the presentation unit, a computer, sympodium, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment. 

MSDN Academic Alliance Renewal for MIS: GRH401  

Makes the latest Microsoft software available in labs, classrooms, and on student and faculty’s personal computers for instructional and research purposes. 

Augmentation of MATLAB Tool Boxes: MCT163  

Provides for additional MATLAB tools to support the Computer Science and Computer Engineering Programs. 

Electronics Prototyping Lab – Basic Fabrication, Testing Equipment and Board Press: MCT163  

Enables the fabrication of custom-designed printed circuit boards, population of existing circuit boards with components, rework of existing boards, and verification of completed boards to support the needs of students within the new computer engineering program on campus.

Upgrade of Innovation Lab for Art: HAC104  

Provides state-of-the-art iMacs, Scanners, Software, Printers and WACOM tablets for use in Art courses, allowing for the creation of art using digital tools. 

Mobile Smart Cart for Physics: FSC  

Smart technology installed on a mobile cart for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Physics department. Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. Sympodium for instructor station: GRH303  

The addition of a sympodium to this smart cart setup allows for immediate interaction with powerpoint slides, and retention of notes made during instruction, increasing the usefulness of course materials to students. 

Zoom Q3HD Video Recorders for Music & Theatre Arts: PAC  

Allows students and faculty to analyze music or theatre performances through both auditory as well as visual assessment, thereby enhancing the learning experience. 

Videoconferencing Facilities: ELL205, HACC Gettysburg, ELL203, ELL204  

Provides a centralized video conferencing center for use by any and all departments, offering multi-sized venues to accommodate large group sizes as well as smaller video conferences with respect for privacy in various locations in the Library as well as one setup at HACC, Gettysburg. 

Campus Guides: ELL  

Provides the Library, Learning Center and IDDS with a tool for creating, maintaining and tracking statistics on usage for website guides for student courses. 

Book Scan Station for Library: ELL  

An alternative to a copier, this scan station, consisting of a computer, touch screen interface and scanner, allows students to scan pages without the need for a cash-based system as the copier required.  It also provides the ability for students to scan files and save them as editable Word and Excel files right to their personal file space of USB drive, e-mail them, or send them to the public printer. 

Library Tablet PCs plus Cart: ELL   

A pilot project to provide students with tablet PCs for use in the Library, particularly for viewing of the library’s collection of 25,000 academic titles of e-books, which are better viewed in a tablet format than a standard laptop or computer screen. 

Student Media Maintenance – Upgrades to Student Operated Radio and TV Stations: CUB   

Provide funding to maintain the functionality of the equipment and services provided by the student managers and faculty advisors of SUTV-Shippensburg University Television and campus radio station WSYC 88.7FM.

Smart technology installed in the classroom for visual and audio presentation enhancement for training tutors, providing workshops, and tutoring students visiting the Learning Center. Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. System includes the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment. 

Portable SMARTBoard with projector, laptop and A/V Cart: ELL  

Provides the Learning Center with a SMARTBoard touch system, which allows faculty and students an interactive display to enhance the learning environment. 

iPad Lab for Comm/Journ: RLH  

30 iPads with a Cart and Apps, 3 Tablets, and 30 External Microphones to allow students in the Communication/Journalism department to create mobile journalism with greater ease making use of the iPad’s voice recorder, video camera, still camera, writing and editing software, design software, social-media applications, and Internet access, all in one handheld device.  The cart provides security and charging for the iPads when not in use.    

Augmentation of Computer Labs for Comm/Journ: RLH202, RLH206  

The addition of Apple TVs to the lab setups in these Mac and PC labs will allow an instructor to mirror an iPad with the data projector in the room so that they can present what it on a single device on the projector screen for the entire class to view. 

Math Modeling Lab: DHC110  

30 iPads with a Cart and data collection Apps and an Apple TV to allow students in the Mathematics department to actively collect date and perform real-time data analysis creating a laboratory in the mathematics classroom.  The cart provides security and charging for the iPads when not in use, while the Apple TV allows an instructor to mirror an iPad with the data projector in the room so that they can present what it on a single device on the projector screen for the entire class to view. 

Video Production Van: CUB  

A mobile video production studio for Communications/Journalism to provide students with industry standard tools, expand the curriculum for students to cover events off campus, and attract students to the Electronic Media concentration. 

Augmentation of English Lab: DHC002  

20 Laptops and a cart to address the issues of growing class sizes and also provide a portable technology solution for students in the English department. The cart provides security and charging for the laptops when not in use. It also allows for ease of transportation of the laptops. 

Distance Supervision Equipment: SPH110  

3 Laptops and 2 Flash Memory Camcorders allow faculty to use Skype to offer individual and peer group supervision to field students during practica and field work with actual clients outside the Shippensburg geographic region. 

Augmentation of Exercise Science Laboratory Equipment: HG105  

4 wireless desktop computers to support Exercise Science laboratory equipment such as the metabolic cart, biomechanics analysis system and Biopac system, and other equipment used by students for coursework as well as research projects. 

Video Cameras for Teacher Ed: SPH  

5 Video cameras with tripods for videotaping student teaching activities to allow faculty to evaluate student authentic performance in the classroom and to provide accurate and contextual feedback to the student teacher, and allow for student teachers’ self –reflection. 

Survey Monkey Online Survey Tool: SPH  

This survey tool allows students and student supervisors to conduct surveys for research and management purposes. 

Networking/E-Commerce Lab Server and Software: GRH  

This server and software will augment the Networking/E-Commerce Lab machines located in GRH 302. 

NEFSIS Web Video Conferencing Software: GRH  

The NEFSIS web video conferencing software enhances the delivery of courses through video conferencing technique, particularly for MBA courses being offered online. 

Presentation stations for Exercise Science: GH220, GH230

Testbed for New, Emerging, Current, Experimental or Cutting-Edge Technologies: ELL012, ELL016  

Provides a source of funds to acquire new, emerging, current, experimental, or cutting-edge technologies (hardware, software, or services) that can be evaluated on a small scale to determine the feasibility, usefulness, and effectiveness of improving teaching/learning facilities and student learning experiences.

Scientific Equipment Projects

 Pasco Dynamics Set, Motion Sensor, 750 Interface: FSC  

This equipment is used by students taking the basic physics laboratories, providing for discovery-based learning opportunities. 

 

Gas Chromatographs, Laptops and Printer for Chemistry: FSC334  

4 Gas Chromatographs and a printer are connected to 4 new laptops in the chemistry department, allowing for students to separation volatile mixtures as part of their research and coursework. 

 

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer Maintenance: FSC018  

The NMR is a piece of equipment that allows students to study molecular physics, crystals, and non-crystalline materials through NMR spectroscopy. The NMR is also routinely used in advanced medical imaging techniques, such as in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  The addition of a maintenance contract for the NMR will ensure that the instrument remains operating properly for use by students in research and for coursework in the chemistry department. 

 

Multimode Fluorescent Plate Reader for Chemistry: FSC308  

This Plate Reader will allow students in the chemistry department to determine levels of absorbance and various types of fluorescence. 

 

Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectroscopy Instrument (GC-MS): FSC310  

Allows students in the chemistry department to separate and analyze compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition.  This is useful in testing the purity of a substance or in separating out the different components of a mixture determining their relative amounts. 

 

Computer Probe Equipment: FSC110, FSC134  

Used by students in the chemistry department for data collection, also useful to secondary education science majors to gain on hands experience since this equipment is often used in middle and high school science classrooms. 

 

Digital Melting Point Temperature Apparatus’: FSC336  

Allows students in the chemistry department to get more accurate readings of the temperatures at which solid changes state from solid to liquid. 

 

FlowTracker Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters: SRH  

These 3 Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters with top-settling wadding rod kits allow for digital data collection of stream discharge measurements by students in the geography/earth science department. 

 

Scanning Electron Microscope Refurbishment: FSC112  

The repair of the physics department’s scanning electron microscope through the replacement of the Amray FS-1850 filament, allowing students doing research in the physics department or in the nanotechnology concentration and upper level labs to image samples by scanning them with a beam of electrons in a raster scan pattern to detail information about the sample’s surface topography, composition, and other properties such as electrical conductivity. 

 

Thermoscientific Spectronic 200 Spectrophotometers, Laptops and Cart: FSC  

10 devices and laptops to allow biology students to view absorbance across the entire visible light spectrum to demonstrate how molecules absorb and reflect different wavelengths of light.  The ability to interface with a computer provides students the opportunity for immediate manipulation and analysis of data, providing critical feedback as the students work in the lab.  The students also have the opportunity to master the more current and relevant technology, better preparing them for jobs in industry and research.  The laptop cart allows for charging of the laptops as well as the ability to secure the equipment when not in use.

 

Hach DR2800 Spectrophotometer & Oakton pH/CON Meter: FSC  

The Hach DR 2800 is a portable spectrophotometer that is able to analyze water samples for a number of chemicals/pollutants. The Oakton pH/CON 300 meter records and stores multiple readings of water pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids, and temperature. Together the spectrophotometer and meter provide students interested in ecology and environmental biology the ability for extensive on-site analysis of water quality.  

 

Bio-Rad CFX96 Quantitative Real Time PCR System: FSC  

The quantitative real time PCR (qPCR) system, allows students to continuously monitor the DNA produced during a PCR reaction by detection of fluorescent DNA binding dyes for coursework in various biology courses. 

 

Titley Scientific AnaBat Detection System: FSC243  

Allows students to survey threatened or endangered bat species through the non-invasive process of the auditory collection of bat calls.  Use of this equipment provides students with techniques and familiarity with equipment used in the environmental industry. 

 

Nanodrop 2000c and Laptop: FSC  

In conjunction with a laptop, the Nanodrop 2000c (Thermo Scientific) is a UV/Vis spectrophotometer that is able to provide DNA, RNA and protein quantification using a minimal volume of sample, and measure optical density of cell cultures.   

 

Computer Controlled Autoclave: FSC138  

The Autoclave functions through a computer interface to control the cycles in order to provide sterilized equipment and consumables for students taking courses in the biology department. 

 

Maintenance Contract for Scanning Electron Microscope and Sputter Coater: FSC020 

The continued maintenance of this instrument ensures that students in the biology department continue to have the ability to image samples by scanning them with a beam of electrons in a raster scan pattern to examine them at high magnifications while retaining excellent resolution and detailed information about the sample’s surface topography, composition, and other properties such as electrical conductivity. 

 

Nikon MI16200 Comparison Microscope with Camera System: SPH  

This microscope allows students in the criminal justice department to gain hands on experience with a tool commonly used in forensic science for a variety of purposes ranging from examining firearm evidence, hair and fiber evidence, paints, glass and a wide variety of other physical evidence by doing a direct side by side comparison of known and questioned samples. 

 

YSI Stat Plus Glucose and Lactate Analyzer: HG105  

This equipment provides students in the exercise department with single sample, prompt determination of blood or plasma glucose and lactate measures. 

 

GaitMat II: HG105  

This device measures spatial and temporal parameters of gait, such as step length, stride length, base of support, step time, swing time, stance time, single leg support and double leg support.  Recorded data is easily exported into excel for further analysis by students in the exercise science department. 

 

Futrex NIR Body Composition Analyzer: HG105  

Students in the exercise science department use this piece of equipment most frequently in their coursework as a non-invasive low-cost technique for body composition analysis.  It uses Near Infrared (NIR) technology to analyze percent body fat to provide information about an individual’s fitness level as well as their risk for cardiovascular disease. 

 

GE Logiq E Ultrasound Doppler Blood Flow Measurement System: HG105  

This equipment provides students in the exercise science department with cutting-edge ultrasound technology allowing them to take measurements of skeletal muscle blood flow and blood vessel diameter. 

 

Wireless Holter EKH System: HG105  

This instrument is used to evaluate an individual’s cardiac activity remotely, the data is them able to be downloaded, read and interpreted by students in the exercise science department for any abnormalities of cardiac cycle.

Provides students with comprehensive source data for financial information and advice. The database contains information on over 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy. 

 

Subscription to AB/Inform Trade & Industry Database  

Provides students with trade publications from industries including finance, insurance, transportation, and construction. It includes in-depth coverage of companies, products, executives, trends, and other topics for more than 2,000 publications, with nearly 1,900 in full-text.  

 

Subscription to BNA Human Resources Library  

Provides students with coverage of workplace issues. This resource describes federal and state compliance requirements; summarizes key state laws and regulations; discusses compensation and benefits, EEO, employee relations, organizational development, safety and health, and staffing issues; and gives tips on writing and implementing work rules and policies. Information targeted for human resources professionals, consultants, and attorneys. 

 

Subscription to BNA Labor and Employment Law Resource Center  

Provides students with editorial explanations with complete citations of labor and employment law categorized by subject area. It also provides topical indexes such as: Disabilities Index, Collective Bargaining & Negotiations Index, and EEO Index. Information in the database is targeted for labor relations professionals, consultants, and attorneys. 

 

Subscription to Cambridge Histories Online  

Provides students with a diverse, up to date and authoritative collection that offers vastly improved accessibility to the print editions published since the 1960s. 

 

Subscription to CAS SciFinder Database  

Provides students with comprehensive indexing of worldwide chemical information, including a wide diversity of research from many related scientific disciplines, including biomedical sciences, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more. 

 

Subscription to CCH Intelliconnect  

Provides students with tax, accounting, and audit information software and services for professionals. CCH is part of the global tax and accounting leader, Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting. 

 

Subscription to GEOBASE Online Academic Journal Database  

Provides students with published research and information across many disciplines that are relevant in the geography department and across the University. Geobase currently indexes well over 1800 journals, many of which are international in origin.   

 

Subscription to IEEE Digital Library  

Provides students with online access to all periodicals (with full archives) in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library including books, conference publications, magazines, online courses, software development certifications, standards, and technical journals. 

 

Subscription to MathSciNet Online Academic Journal Database  

Provides students with access to a carefully maintained and easily searchable database of reviews, abstracts and bibliographic information for much of the mathematical sciences literature. Over 100,000 new items are added each year, most of them classified according to the Mathematics Subject Classification.  Authors are uniquely identified, enabling a search for publications by individual author rather than by name string.   

 

Subscription to PAIS Online Academic Journal Database with Archive  

Provides students with continually updated records for over half a million journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference papers, web content, and more. PAIS International includes publications from over 120 countries throughout the world. In addition to English, some of the indexed materials are published in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and other languages. 

 

Subscription to Political Science Complete (PSC) Online Academic Journal Database  

Provides students with an extensive full-text collection and index to political science literature, including online full-text for 500+ academic journals in political science and related fields, cover to cover indexing for a total of 1,000 political science journals and selective coverage for an additional 1,000 journals in related fields. Political Science Complete also provides unique access to papers delivered at political science conferences, as well as to a collection of some 340 reference and other political science e-books. 

 

Subscription to Morningstar Direct Databank  

Provides students with a global investment analysis platform that unites all of Morningstar’s data and institutional research, private and third-party content, rigorous analytics, and productivity tools.

Smart technology in the classroom for visual and audio presentation enhancement. The addition of data projectors and a document camera expand teaching capabilities and improve the classroom learning experience.  These rooms are used for a variety of specialized programs that enhance student-learning outcomes.

 

Augmentation of Distance Education Classroom for College of Education: SPH140  

Smart technology in the classroom for visual and audio presentation enhancement. The use of a plasma display and digital video cameras enhances the learning outcomes for the classes that use this technology.  The large screen monitor enables students to more effectively view the remote presenters during distance education classes.

 

Smart Classroom for the English Department: DHC106

A complete theater presentation system for classroom use by students in the English Department. This system includes the presentation unit that includes an AMX wireless control touch panel, a computer, DVD/VCR and a high-end data projector with supporting video switching equipment. In addition, the room features a theater-style lighting system with multiple controls as well as a mechanical screen.

 

Smart Classroom for Math: DHC110 

Smart technology in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Mathematics Department.  Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. System includes the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment. 

 

Replacement server for Computer Science: MCT163  

Allow for students to have access to CS virtual servers.  Computer science was able to consolidate seven servers onto this one machine.  These servers provide student access to Linux, project tracking, web programming, MSDNA services, BROADSIDE center projects, a working environment for the programming team and a multi-experiment laboratory.

 

Digital Cameras/Video Cameras for Communications/Journalism: RLH206 

Allows for students to use state of the art digital photography equipment, using industry standard equipment that they will find out in the professional world.

 

Tutor Track software for Learning Center: ELL 

Provides on-line tutoring services for students, with emphasis for on-line writing support.   Provides for online scheduling and monitoring of appointments for students located both on and off campus.

Smart technology in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Psychology Department.  Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. Systems include the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment.

This computer lab provides 21 workstations and software licenses for lab use by students in the Art department.

 

Renewal of Computer Lab for Computer Science: MCT165  

This computer lab provides 26 workstations and software licenses for lab use by students in the Computer Science department. Students complete laboratory exercises that include teaching programming concepts and provide tools for experimentation and visualization of those concepts. The goal is to demonstrate the application of technology to solving computer programming problems through course content. 

 

Computer lab - 33 units: MCT162 for Computer Science  

Lab consisting of 33 computers used by students in the computer science department to complete laboratory exercises that include teaching programming concepts and provide tools for experimentation and visualization of those concepts. The goal is to demonstrate the application of technology to solving computer programming problems through course content.

 

Presentation stations: SPH100,160,220,320,370 COE 

Smart technology in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement. Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials.  Additionally, other peripherals necessary for these units to support students in the seven departments of the College of Education and Human Services were furnished.  The department of Exercise Science established a computer classroom, giving direct usage of technology to the students of that department.  Project originally included SPH340 but equipment was moved to SPH320 at time of renewal to meet student needs.

 

Augmentation of Student Smart Study Room:  ELL120A 

A Smart Study Room in the Ezra Lehman Library room 120A for usage by the students establishing a forum for students to work collaboratively in the Library.

 

Augmentation of Student Laptop checkout:  ELL Circulation Desk 

A highly utilized student Laptop Checkout program including 48 laptops, establishing a forum for students to work collaboratively in the Library.

 

General Purpose Wireless Computer Classroom consisting of 40 Laptops and Cart: HG 

Provides wireless computers and general purpose software to be used in various classrooms and shared by Exercise Science and various departments as needed.  Project originally included 24 laptops, but number was increased to 32 and then 40 on susequent renewals to accommodate increases in class sizes.

 

Augmentation of Computer Lab with Wacom Tablets for Art: HAC307  

Provides students with access to state of the art graphics tablets implemented into the Art program. The addition of the tablets allows students to use digital drawing pens to paint and draw on the computer. 

 

 

Canceled Tech Fee Projects 2012

Augmentation of Computer Lab for College of Education: SPH160 

These 6 workstations and printer provide students access to a “mini-lab” for use with web based learning programs.  Students using this facility will be provided with experimental and pragmatic learning opportunities.  This project has been cancelled, the 6 computers have been moved over to SPH140 and will be renewed as part of that project when it is up for renewal next year to allow for the lab to accommodate larger class sizes.

 

MBA Plasma Screen: GRH006 COB

Provides the students with state-of-the-art Plasma display for the Distance Education Classroom in Grove Hall, utilized by the College of Business students as well as other students campus-wide.
