Girls' Basketball Camp


General Camp Information

  1. All phases of basketball will be instructed during the camp by a professional staff.
  2. Every camper will receive individual attention.
  3. An evaluation of every camper will be issued at the conclusion of the camp week.
  4. A camp all-star team will be selected.
  5. Three-on-three competition.
  6. Individual basketball skills competition.
  7. Camp awards will be given.
  8. Swimming, tennis, sand volleyball courts, and much more available.
  9. The total resident plan which includes meals, lodging, T-shirt, instruction, limited medical insurance, and a camp basketball is $325. The commuter plan includes T-shirt, instruction, limited medical insurance, and a camp basketball. Commuters may choose from four different plans: The commuter plan with no meals is $210; with four lunches is $233; with four lunches and four dinners is $261; with four breakfasts, four lunches, and four dinners is $278.
  10. Round-the-clock supervision for each camper.
  11. Housing: Only two participants will be assigned to a room. Two sheets, one pillowcase, and a pillow are provided. No towels, washcloths, or blankets are provided. Bring a light blanket, washcloths, and towels with you. Coin operated washers and dryers are available in the residence hall.
  12. Key policy: Campers not returning their room key at camp dismissal will be subject to a lock change fee (ranging rom $25-$40). For security reasons, lock changes must be made immediately before the next group arrives. Keys returned after check out is not permissible. There will be no exceptions.
  13. Pre-register early. Demands have been excessive for this camp. First-come, first-served. Get applications in early.
  14. The university's Etter Health Center, with a nurse on duty 24 hours a day, is available to any camper needing medical attention. A certificate of health must be presented by each participant at the camp's registration. A standard form will be sent upon acceptance. This form does not require a physician's examination or signature. Requests for accommodations, auxiliary aids or services must be made in writing to the Office of Social Equity at least fifteen (15) days before the camp begins. The Office of Social Equity is located in Old Main 200, Shippensburg University, 1871 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257-2299, (717) 477-1329.
  15. Things to bring: shorts, shirts, sweat pants, basketball sneakers, socks, and swimsuit.
  16. Absolutely no visitation by family members during this week unless permission is granted by the camp director. Experience has shown that the campers are more receptive to instruction and less stressful when outside adults are not present.

Directors, staff & guest lecturers

The SU Sports Camps are proud of the excellent staff and clinicians employed from the college, high school, and NBA ranks to offer superior instruction to our campers. Special guest speakers will be present to lecture and demonstrate the different aspects of basketball. Staff subject to change.

Kristy Trn enters her ninth season as head coach of the Shippensburg University women's basketball team for the 2007-08 season. The two-time PSAC Western Division Coach of the Year has a career record of 150-82 overall and a mark of 58-38 in the PSAC Western Division. She guided Shippensburg to conference championships in the 1999 and 2001 seasons. In 2001, Trn's squad advanced to the Final Four of NCAA Division II. Coach Trn is a member of both the Shippensburg University Athletics Hall of Fame and Plum High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

Jennifer Scaffidi is coming off her first season as assistant coach for the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team. Scaffidi is a 2005 graduate
of Shippensburg University where she earned a Daktronics, Inc. All-East Region Second Team selection as a senior as well as first team All-Conference.
She is currently ranked sixth on the school’s career scoring list with 1,583 points and holds the school records for career and season free throw percentage. She is also the only player to total over 100 assists in four-straight seasons and lead the team in assists four consecutive years. Scaffidi concluded her career with 481 assists.
Prior to Shippensburg, Scaffidi served as the assistant varsity coach of the Washington Township High School girls basketball team during the 2006-2007
season, helping lead the Minutemaids to a 21-7 record, an Olympic Conference championship and berth in the sectional semifinals.

Jack Schenzel is a 1995 graduate of Shippensburg University. Schenzel joined the women's basketball team as an assistant coach for the 2005-06 season. Schenzel brings with him four years of experience as a high school assistant coach at Shippensburg High School. With the Greyhounds, the boys' basketball team won a Mid-Penn championship and made three district playoff appearances.
Schenzel was also a coach at Grace Baptist Temple High School in St. Albans, West Virginia during the 2002-03 season.
