The Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) provides student/alumni-centered career and community engagement programs, experiences, and learning opportunities to assist students to develop and achieve personal and professional goals. The Center will implement career and community engagement program initiatives through service-learning, employer and alumni collaboration, and outreach on and off the University campus to foster campus and community partnerships.
The Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) aspires to focus on creating an environment of student centeredness exhibiting professionalism, responsiveness, reflection, social responsibility, and collaboration in order for students to realize and achieve their professional potential.
Meet the Team
Victoria Kerr: Victoria is the Director of the Career and Community Engagement Center. Since starting at Shippensburg University in 2013, Victoria has revitalized the CCEC by developing new and innovative programs designed to assist students in reaching their academic and career goals. She is passionate about connecting students to their purpose and developing those interests, skills, and abilities into a successful career path. Previous to Ship, she served as the Director of the Career Center at Shepherd University. Victoria holds a Master of Science in College Student Development from Shepherd University and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society from American University. Before her career in higher education, she worked for the American Bar Association and American Woodmark Corporation in human resources and talent sourcing. Sarah McDowell Shupp, ‘08M: Sarah currently serves as the Associate Director of the Career and Community Engagement Center and specializes in developing relationships with local, regional, and national employers, and meeting with students to help them hone their job searching skills. She has worked on college campuses for eight years and her background includes extensive experience in career development and student affairs. Sarah earned her Master of Science in Counseling and College Student Personnel from Shippensburg University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Stevenson University. Javita Thompson: Javita Thompson is the Assistant Director of Community Engagement in the Career and Community Engagement Center. Thompson received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication and her Master of Science in Emergency Management from Millersville University of Millersville, PA. Javita spent five years working in the career office at Millersville University, where she provided assistance to students seeking community service, internship opportunities, resume and cover letter critiques, mentorship, exploratory and club advising. Prior to her transition to Shippensburg University, she worked as a district manager for a retail company, overseeing her division’s hiring and operations. Her passion is mentoring at-risk student populations and assisting students with assimilating to the campus and community through service. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Speech Communication department at Millersville University. Kimberly Rockwell: Kimberly has been with Shippensburg University for over five years. Kimberly provides administrative support within the Career and Community Engagement Center. She earned her Associates Degree in Social Services from Harrisburg Community College in 2012. Kimberly resides in Shippensburg with her family.
