Welcome, Raiders! The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center Staff is dedicated to helping you with all of your career, internship, and community service needs. It’s never too early in your Ship career to start preparing for your future. We are here to help you achieve your professional and personal goals.

Our staff is available to meet with students to help with anything related to their personal career development. During these appointments, staff will assist students in developing skills and knowledge related to careers and service.We maintain regular office hours, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, for appointments and events. Students can call our office at (717) 477-1484 or drop by CUB 108 to schedule an appointment.

Express Hours

Express Hours are designed for quick, 10-15 minute resume or cover letter critique with a CCEC Staff Member. They are offered during the following dates and times:

  • Mondays, 2-6 pm
  • Wednesdays, 2-4 pm

Mock Interview Module

Through SHIP Career Connection, students can practice their interview skills by responding to pre-recorded questions with their webcams. Simply login and select “Mock Interview” from the list of options on the right side menu bar. There are many interviews on the website, so students can choose one relevant to their major or the position they are applying for. After completing the interview, students will receive feedback from a CCEC staff member, and can schedule an appointment to review and practice answers in person.

Student Appointment No Show Policy

The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center maintains a busy schedule with appointments, on-campus interviews and career and service related events. We encourage students to be professional and keep scheduled appointment times. We understand that sometimes situations occur which may prevent that; but it is important to be professional in responding to those situations (Please call the office at (717) 477-1484 if you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment/interview time). Failure to keep scheduled appointments prevents others from scheduling appointments; and it reflects poorly on the student, the Career and Community Engagement Center, and the institution when students fail to keep scheduled interview times. The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center has developed a “ Student Appointment No Show/Cancellation Policy” which will be followed. Multiple occurrences of missed appointments will result in suspension of services to the CMPDC until approval/reinstatement from the Director.

All on campus student employment and federal work study positions are posted through SHIP Career Connection. Departments and offices post the positions as needed, usually around the start of the semester, and these postings are approved by the CMPDC. Be sure to pay close attention to the application requirements, as some departments require documents beyond the application.

Positions that are open to just federal work study will say “federal work study” in the job title, while jobs open to all students will include “on-campus student employer or federal work study” in the title. Only those students who have received federal work study as a part of their financial aid package will be qualified for these positions.

To determine if you have received federal work study funds, log in to your myship portal, click on "student," then "paying for college," then "financial aid award," and then select the current academic year (i.e. 2019-2020). To see your award for the current academic year, click on the tab labeled "award offered." There you should see what funds you have available. If you have questions about your aid package, please contact the financial aid office.

The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center offers career counseling for those who aren't sure what they want to do, what they can do, or are having second thoughts about their majors or career paths. We encourage students to schedule an appointment with a CMPDC staff member to discuss career-related issues and to devise a plan for career success. The CMPDC also utilizes career assessment tools, including FOCUS 2, to provide students with a self-paced career assessment that gathers information about unique skills, values, abilities, and interests and combines them into career and job options. To register for an account, click here and follow the prompts. You will need the access code “raiders” to complete registration.

The CMPDC is the central office on campus for all things volunteer and service learning. Our staff can help students connect with community leaders, resources, and non-profit coordinators, to volunteer their time or apply for service positions. Students may have requirements for service hours from academics or organizations, and the CMPDC can help guide you to and appropriate volunteer opportunity for you and encourage you to continue serving the community.

SHIP Career Connection is a free, online job, internship, and volunteer opportunity database that offers recruiting services for students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff. There are always hundreds of jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities posted on and off campus by the CMPDC's connections. Students are able to view and apply for open positions, build their networks, and explore career paths and opportunities.
