Communication/Journalism Facilities and Equipment

Communication/Journalism students have access to state-of-the-art facilities. Our writing and desktop design labs, radio station and television studio are outfitted with professional, industry-standard equipment and software. You will have access to these facilities right away by participating in courses and our student organizations.

Audio/Video Editing Lab - Rowland Hall 207 houses a professional audio recording studio and voiceover sound booth as well as several edit bays.

Mac Lab - The lab in Rowland Hall 206 is equipped for digital processing and printing using Adobe Photoshop, Epson printers and DSLR cameras.

PRSSA Office - The PRSSA office is located in Ceddia Union Building 252.

PC Lab - Rowland Hall 202 is equipped with 25 computer audio editing stations utilizing Adobe Audition and Blue Microphones.

Radio Station - Ceddia Union Building 246 is home to WSYC 88.7 FM, Ship’s student-run radio station.

The Slate Office - The office for Ship's student-run newspaper is next door to the radio station in the Ceddia Union Building.

SUTV Office - Ship’s student-run television station has an office across from WSYC and The Slate. The office has multiple video editing stations.

TV Studio - Grove Hall 004 has a professional TV production center equipped with:

  • Three Hitachi HD studio cameras with Autocue teleprompters
  • A Grass Valley Kayak digital production switcher
  • Adobe Premiere Pro HD non-linear editing systems
  • Playback Pro non-linear media playback system
  • Ross Inception newsroom computer system
  • Ross Xpression 3D graphics system
  • HD Panasonic ENG camcorders
  • News and chroma key sets with two zone dimmable lighting
  • CNN Newsource

The TV production center also has a mobile TV production van equipped with four HD cameras and instant replay tape decks to produce live and live-on-tape events and sports contests for broadcast on Comcast Cable and campus TV.
